Ophelia Tavern & Bar Top are now open at The Dale in Avondale Estates, and we’re seeking dependable, hardworking Barbacks who can keep pace with a busy bar and help our bartenders deliver exceptional service.

Ophelia Tavern is a refined neighborhood gathering place serving Italian-inspired comfort food in a welcoming, no-fuss atmosphere. Our menu features pizzas crisped in 600-degree ovens, pastas tossed in scratch-made sauces, thoughtfully prepared entrées, sandwiches, salads, and small plates made for sharing. Inviting indoor and patio seating complement handcrafted cocktails, a whiskey-forward bar program, and a well-rounded selection of beer and wine.

Located upstairs, Bar Top is a 21-and-over rooftop bar featuring a spacious covered patio overlooking the Town Green at The Dale, along with a cozy indoor bar, fireplace, and private event space.

As a Barback, you help keep the bar stocked, clean, organized, and ready for service. We’re looking for team members who anticipate needs, move with purpose, and take pride in making sure bartenders have the supplies and support they need throughout every shift.

What We’re Looking For

• Previous barback, restaurant, or hospitality experience preferred
• Experience supporting a high-volume bar is a plus
• A strong work ethic and sense of urgency
• Ability to anticipate needs and stay productive throughout the shift
• Strong attention to cleanliness, organization, and safe work practices
• Ability to follow directions and prioritize multiple tasks
• Clear communication and a team-first attitude
• Willingness to assist with stocking, cleaning, glassware, ice, and bar preparation
• Dependability, punctuality, and a professional appearance
• Interest in learning about cocktails, spirits, beer, wine, and bar operations
• Ability to remain focused and organized during busy service
• Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events

Position Responsibilities

• Support bartenders throughout service by keeping supplies stocked and accessible
• Replenish ice, clean glassware, beverages, mixers, napkins, straws, and other bar supplies
• Restock beer, wine, spirits, and non-alcoholic beverages as directed
• Assist with preparing garnishes, juices, mixers, and other ingredients according to company procedures
• Wash, sanitize, and organize glassware and bar tools
• Collect used glassware and dishes from designated areas
• Keep bar workspaces, storage areas, coolers, and service areas clean and organized
• Maintain proper product rotation, labeling, dating, and storage
• Communicate low stock, shortages, breakage, and equipment concerns promptly
• Assist with receiving and organizing beverage deliveries as assigned
• Empty trash and recycling and replace liners throughout the shift
• Address spills promptly and follow proper broken-glass cleanup procedures
• Keep walkways and work areas clear and safe
• Assist with keg changes and draft system needs after appropriate training
• Complete opening, running, and closing checklists
• Support bar setup and breakdown for private events and special functions
• Work closely with bartenders, servers, kitchen staff, and managers to keep service running smoothly
• Follow sanitation, workplace safety, and responsible alcohol service policies

Bar Support & Service Standards

A well-supported bar runs more efficiently and allows bartenders to remain attentive to guests. Our Barbacks are expected to notice what needs attention and take action while communicating with the team.

Our standards include:

• Fully stocked and organized bar stations
• Timely replenishment of ice, glassware, and supplies
• Clean, sanitized glassware and equipment
• Proper handling and storage of beverage products and garnishes
• Prompt attention to spills, trash, and safety concerns
• Clear communication with bartenders and management
• Consistent completion of opening and closing duties
• Professionalism and teamwork during high-volume service

Qualifications

• Previous restaurant or bar support experience preferred
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to safely carry supplies and move products between storage and service areas
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and use stairs throughout the shift
• Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation
• Willingness to learn proper equipment use, product handling, and bar procedures
• Commitment to food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety standards

Schedule & Availability

Applicants should have flexible availability to support restaurant service, weekend business, and private events. Specific shifts and reporting times will be discussed during the interview process.
