Company Overview

Vividion is a next generation biotechnology company based in San Diego that is leveraging its proprietary chemical proteomics platform to conduct proteome-wide footprinting of drug-protein interactions with unprecedented breadth and precision. Our technology allows us to screen, identify and optimize novel drugs that selectively bind virtually any protein, including proteins previously considered “undruggable”. Our pipeline and emerging programs reflect a matured and productive platform capable of delivering first in class drugs utilizing novel mechanisms of action (allosteric inhibitors, protein-protein interaction inhibitors, functional activators, degraders, etc.) against undruggable targets in the oncology and immunology space.

Job Summary

Vividion Therapeutics is seeking a temporary Scientist level contractor to provide hands-on toxicology expertise in support of drug discovery and development programs. The contractor will guide safety assessment activities and design, oversee and interpret in vitro and in vivo studies evaluating the safety profiles of covalently and non-covalently targeted small molecules in alignment with applicable regulatory guidance. This individual will work closely with the toxicology function, contract research organizations (CROs), and multidisciplinary discovery and development teams to advance promising therapeutics toward the clinic.

Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Represent the toxicology function as a subject matter expert on drug discovery and development project teams; provide guidance on safety characterization, candidate prioritization and advancement.
  • Directly interface with CROs to scope and place appropriate in vitro and in vivo toxicology studies; manage study execution to support timely, high-quality data delivery.
  • Review and quality-check study protocols, results and reports; integrate and summarize toxicology findings and communicate conclusions to project teams and senior stakeholders.
  • Contribute to safety study summaries, nonclinical overviews and other regulatory documents; support regulatory interactions as appropriate for the assignment.
  • Identify and implement fit-for-purpose safety assessment strategies to address program-specific safety questions and emerging challenges.
  • Collaborate with early discovery teams on literature-based target safety assessments and target-safety derisking activities.
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant nonclinical safety and regulatory expectations through scientific literature, cross-industry forums and professional conferences.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Ph.D. in pharmacology, toxicology or a closely related biomedical discipline with 3+ years of relevant industry experience, or M.S. in one of these fields with 7+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology (DABT) is highly desired.
  • Broad understanding of nonclinical safety assessment and regulatory requirements for drug development.
  • Experience representing toxicology on discovery and/or development project teams.
  • Ability to critically evaluate, interpret and integrate multidisciplinary data to support target and compound safety assessment and mechanistic derisking.
  • Experience designing, conducting and interpreting in vitro and in vivo safety pharmacology, genetic toxicology and general toxicology studies.
  • Demonstrated experience working with and overseeing CROs.
  • Experience in immunology is highly desired.

Required Key Attributes

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic, multidisciplinary and highly collaborative environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including clear communication of complex toxicology findings.
  • Strong scientific judgment, problem-solving skills, urgency and curiosity.
  • Proactive, agile and able to operate effectively in a fast-paced setting.
