Resident Services Technician
Description

Overview: As a growing 501 C3, Non-profit organization, CRCI is always looking for new talented individuals who can be an addition to its efforts. It is CRCI’s Management's desire that each person involved with the organization (paid or not paid) has a burden for the lost, the sick, and the suffering. It is also important that all staff recognize that they are a representative of CRCI, and the actions will affect the community's outlook upon it. Staff is a representation of the CRCI program, and it will be expected for them to conduct themselves in a manner that would always promote and elevate the image of CRCI to the community. Any behavior that promotes a negative image of the organization is unacceptable.

Job Description: The purpose of the Resident Services Technician position is to strengthen the bond between the residents and the staff of each CRCI program and campus. Resident Services Technicians have many duties, several of which are of the utmost importance to the core mission of the ministry. The primary duty of the Resident Services Technician is to assist senior program leadership to ensure that resident needs are met in a safe, reasonable, and timely fashion. The ability to operate with a level-headed attitude and not respond emotionally to every situation is a must for this position. Resident Services Technicians will be assisting with planning and managing the daily activities of the residents, supervising/facilitating recovery groups, keeping records of resident performance and attendance, receiving/responding to resident request forms throughout the day, and counseling the residents when needed. Resident Services Technicians should be able to assist with all resident care needs and uphold the established processes of the recovery center. For example: Those assigned to the resident management department may be assigned to collect the request forms 3x/day (morning, lunch, before retirement), evaluate each one carefully to separate resident needs from wants, enter them into the data management system, and return an answer to the resident by retirement on the same day. If a request will take longer than one day to deliver an answer, then the resident should still receive confirmation that their request has been heard and is now being evaluated.

The Resident Services Technician's duties may include the following, but are not limited to:

  • Assessing needs and bringing serious concerns to the Resident Manager for further instruction.
  • Medical/Dental appointments (such as with CommWell Health).
  • Emergency Room visits and other immediate transportation needs.
  • Assist with managing appointments and requests for legal matters.
  • Helping residents meet the identification requirements.
  • Family contact request verification (during first week of residency) and weekend phone call sign-up for all eligible residents.
  • Immediate disciplinary action follow-through.
  • RST should not assign strikes to residents- submit to supervisor for further action
  • If RST witnesses or has a legitimate reason to believe a resident has violated any of the program guidelines, it is their responsibility to assign appropriate corrective action to the resident and document the occurrence immediately, or elevate the concern to supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Check that writing assignments & self-evaluations are turned in on time; ensure disciplinary actions are handled in a timely manner. Follow-through is of the utmost importance.
  • Assist with the Bell Award program and Excellence Party for residents. Partner with supervisor or DOO for financial decision approval
  • Legal documentation and scheduling
  • Plan for court dates and send letters to attorneys, DA, judge, etc. We always try to encourage the courts to continue the case until the resident has completed our program. The purpose of this is to limit potential program interruptions and ensure residents are prepared to resolve their legal matters after becoming prepared for the next step of their life during their time in the program.
  • Document all legal communications and update files with any changes.
  • Oversee all resident requests and provide answers in a timely manner. Usually the same-day answers will be given before or during retirement.
  • Fulfill all residents’ immediate needs and requests while documenting all actions and actively maintaining transparency with the team and supervisor.
  • Log staff and resident needs into errands list that will require outside purchase. Elevate expense requests to supervisor through the use of the Expense Request form on the Master Link.
  • Daily follow-up with resident questions and requests. The RST exists to help solve problems, answer questions, and ease any anxiety of stressful situations, even those not existing within the walls of a residential campus. Sometimes the residents just need to talk and it is the duty of the Resident Care department to adjust the perspective of residents who are questioning their motives and personal recovery.
  • Complete daily resident schedule as needed, seek guidance from supervisor whenever necessary
  • Daily update of assignments list on Airtable. This is done in conjunction with the Google Calendar to make sure that each company and event has specific residents assigned to fill the numbers represented on the calendar.
  • The Operations Manager and Director of Operations will work together to provide oversight on this to manage any logistical issues, assign vehicles, and prevent double booking. It is the duty of the Operations Manager to schedule events and request a number of residents for each item. The Resident Manager is responsible for determining which residents will be assigned to each event and to enforce the work/program ratio for all residents.
  • Minister to residents, Preaching/Teaching
  • Each intern & staff member should have no less than three lessons planned well enough to teach at a moment’s notice in the case of a scheduled opening or an instructor no-show. A staff member may be called upon at any time to fill one of these time slots, especially if there was a last-minute cancellation.
  • Chapel Assistance
  • Provide support for the person leading a class. For example, if a resident causes a disturbance during chapel, it is the job of the supporting staff to remove that individual from the group so that the teacher can continue their lesson relatively uninterrupted.
  • After each 9 am chapel service, staff will review the lesson with residents and answer any questions that may arise with the residents in a group setting.
  • Resident Meetings. Each resident will meet with a staff member for a one-on-one meeting at least once every two weeks. This bi-weekly meeting schedule provides the residents with an opportunity to express any concerns they may have about anything in their life and to discuss any present needs. Resident Services Technicians will be assigned to lead these one-on-one meetings (and follow ups). It is important for the RST to do these meetings and to submit documentation within the designated timeframe. Confidentiality is important- staff members will not violate confidentiality by speaking to residents about discussions with other residents.
  • Resident administration and documentation
  • Assist with intake, discharge, and note-taking processes. Review resident files after an intake has been completed to check for accuracy and any missing information. Note any legal issues and plan to intervene in scheduled court appearances by contacting their attorney immediately to make sure residents will not need to leave the program for any reason. In general, CRCI does not provide transportation to/from court appearances and does not allow residents to leave the program to attend to these matters. These conflicts of time in treatment should be planned by the resident before admission and should be resolved before intake. CRCI staff must verify every applicant has done this (by requesting documentation- require proof) because we have found over time that applicants will often not do these things on their own, without this level of accountability. For example: An applicant may claim that they will address legal issues before entering the program, or that they already have, but staff should never take an applicant’s word for anything that is legal, medical, or SUD-related. Confirmation is necessary to prevent future issues. Always follow up with a phone call, request paperwork, or require additional drug screens if there is any question. When applicable, verify all probation requirements and ensure that each resident will be allowed to travel out of state. It should be noted if a resident will require a travel permit to cross state lines.
  • Update Airtable records
  • Audit available data during downtime for any changes that need to be made, such as inaccurate or outdated information, and verify anything questionable. It is every employee’s responsibility to make sure that each department is adhering to the strict guidelines set in place by CRCI management for the protection of residents and staff.
  • Answer Phone calls when assigned. Pay attention even when not assigned. If the person assigned to answer phones is unavailable, the responsibility will default to the next person who is able to answer.
