Engineering Services Manager
Description

Vierbicher is a team of professional engineers, planners, community development specialists, land surveyors and GIS specialists who provide comprehensive solutions for a wide range of projects. Our goal is to provide clients with creative consulting services and quality products, enabling them to efficiently and effectively meet their goals. We work to build strong relationships with our clients that promote trust, cooperation and teamwork.

Now in our 50th year, we are proud to be an employee-owned firm recognized by Zweig Group as one of 2026's Best Firms To Work For, our fourth time earning the honor, and named to its Hot Firm list of the fastest-growing firms in the industry. We believe that recognition reflects the people behind it, the same people who own the firm and shape its future.

This position is responsible for leading a talented group of civil engineers, project managers, and professional land surveyors in delivering high-quality public infrastructure and/or private land development projects. This position sits at the intersection of team leadership, technical excellence, resource allocation, and operational efficiency, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest engineering standards.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Team Leadership and People Management

  • Manage, mentor, and grow a multi-disciplinary team of civil engineers, project managers, and land surveyors.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, set clear career development goals, and foster a collaborative, high-performance team culture.
  • Identify training needs and continuous education opportunities to keep the team current on industry practices, software, and regulatory standards.
  • Manage projects and provide project management support as needed to cover staffing vacancies and workflow peaks—typically overseeing up to 3 projects, but potentially more depending on group workload and capacity.

2. Operations and Resource Allocation

  • Direct resource scheduling, staff allocation, and project task assignments within their client group—balancing workload capacity, matching technical expertise to project needs, and holding authority to reassign staff to maintain balanced workloads.
  • Oversee team workload, project scheduling, and staff utilization to balance capacity across public and private sector projects.
  • Standardize design processes, surveying workflows, and Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) procedures to maximize accuracy and efficiency.
  • Monitor project performance metrics, financial targets (billable hours, budgets, scope creep), and delivery schedules.

3. Technical Oversight and Quality Control

  • Serve as a senior technical escalation point for complex civil design, zoning/entitlement issues, and surveying challenges.
  • Review and approve critical engineering deliverables, calculations, and plans prior to agency submittals.
  • Ensure all projects comply with local, state, and federal regulations, environmental standards, and municipal codes.

4. Strategic and Interdepartmental Collaboration

  • Work closely with executive leadership to align team capacity with business development pipelines and firm growth strategies.
  • Partner with business development teams to lead the technical and financial proposal development for client group pursuits—holding primary accountability for technical scope definition, subconsultant strategy, and technical capability vetting, while owning the execution of fee estimation, commercial risk sign-off, and shortlist presentation participation.
  • Build and maintain positive, respectful, and collaborative relationships with municipal staff, agency reviewers, plan commissions, elected committees, permitting authorities, clients, and sub-consultants to foster mutual trust and streamline project approvals

5. Other duties as assigned
