Role Overview

The Project Engineer II runs customer jobs from order to shipment. This person builds and manages orders, keeps work moving through the shop, and makes sure every job meets the customer's technical requirements, schedule, and PT&P quality standards.

This is an experienced hire, not a training role. The Project Engineer II brings a proven track record of running projects, works with limited day-to-day oversight, and combines solid technical knowledge with strong organization and follow-through. The focus is on running jobs well, not on stress analysis or detailed design calculations. Technical questions outside the role's authority go to the appropriate engineering leader.

Key Responsibilities

  • Run jobs from start to finish: build and manage assigned orders, set up scope, schedule, and deliverables, and track each job through engineering, purchasing, production, quality, and shipping.
  • Work directly with customers: serve as a primary contact for assigned projects, answer technical and schedule questions, manage changes, and keep customers informed.
  • Keep work moving through the shop: release clear, complete information to the shop, work with production and planning to set realistic delivery dates, and resolve questions before they affect quality or delivery.
  • Review the technical details: check drawings, specifications, bills of materials, and purchase orders for accuracy and against what was quoted; flag and resolve discrepancies.
  • Coordinate across departments: work with Engineering, Drafting, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Quality Control, Sales, and Accounting to keep commitments on track.
  • Solve problems early: spot technical, schedule, cost, and quality issues, find the root cause, and follow through with the responsible teams until they are fixed.
  • Manage several jobs at once: organize tasks, set priorities, and keep multiple orders on schedule at the same time.
  • Support Project Managers: handle delegated project work on larger jobs and help guide less-experienced Project Engineers.

Project Tasks and Deliverables

  • Maintain job schedules, action logs, and weekly status updates; raise risks and recovery plans quickly.
  • Review awarded purchase orders and contract requirements against quoted terms, scope, and delivery dates.
  • Manage revisions and customer changes, and make sure every affected department has the current information.
  • Provide technical and schedule input for quotes, estimates, and customer meetings.
  • Document customer questions, decisions, and agreed actions, and follow through within delegated authority.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience: At least 5 years of experience as a Project Engineer running jobs or orders in manufacturing, industrial equipment, piping, pipe supports, or similar engineered products. Hands-on experience running jobs counts more than the specific degree.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and project engineering experience will be considered.
  • Technical knowledge: Solid understanding of engineered products, manufacturing processes, and technical drawings. Experience with piping and pipe supports is preferred.
  • Organization: Highly organized, with a proven ability to manage several jobs, deadlines, and priorities at once.
  • Project management: Able to plan, track, and deliver work across departments with limited supervision.
  • Communication: Clear and professional with customers, shop personnel, and internal teams.
  • Tools: Proficient in Excel and project tracking tools; able to learn PT&P's engineering and production systems.
