Who We Are
O'Donnell Metal Deck is a national structural steel distributor with 20+ locations across the country, specializing in open web steel bar joist and metal deck. We're growing fast, and we're looking for people who move quickly, take initiative, and want their work to matter.
The Opportunity
You'll be the first voice customers hear when they call our region, and you'll own stock and cut-list deck sales. It's fast-paced and high-volume. Some calls are a quick stock order, and others turn into technical conversations about the product. Most of our business comes from repeat customers, so the relationships you build matter as much as the quote.
Your day splits between handling what comes in (calls, emails, and quotes) and going out to find new business (prospecting new accounts and following up with existing customers). This is also where new sales talent starts at O'Donnell. You'll train as an Estimator, and reps who master our product line are set up to grow into our more technical Bid Sales role down the road.
What You'll Do
Handle What Comes In
- Own the Phones: Be the main point of contact for inbound customer calls in the region, fielding stock and quote requests by phone and email.
- Figure Out the Real Need: Work through each request to understand what the customer actually needs, whether it's a quick stock order or a technical conversation about the product and the best way to fulfill the job.
- Quote It Right: Choose the right fulfillment path and quote the work using our sales scripts and process, so every customer gets a consistent, accurate experience.
- Close the Deal: Close the sale, negotiate payment terms, and enter the order in the CRM and QuickBooks.
Go Out and Find It
- Build the Pipeline: Use company data and lists to prospect new accounts and grow the customer base, following our outreach approach and scripts.
- Stay Close to Customers: Follow up regularly with existing and repeat customers to keep relationships strong and capture ongoing business.
- Close the Loop: Follow up on stale calls and lost or no-award bids, log the outcomes, and close out jobs in the CRM.
You'll Thrive Here If You
- Love being on the phone and building relationships with customers
- Are just as comfortable making the outbound call as taking the inbound one
- Move fast, make decisions quickly, and can handle a high volume of calls and quotes
- Like having a proven sales process and scripts to work from
- Are comfortable with numbers and enjoy learning technical and construction details
- Stay organized and pay close attention to the details
- Want a long-term career with a clear path into estimating and Bid Sales
This Probably Isn't for You If
You'd rather not be on the phone all day, you don't enjoy reaching out to people who aren't expecting your call, or you'd prefer to make it up as you go instead of following a sales process.
What's In It For You
- Competitive salary plus commission
- Health, dental, and vision coverage
- 401(k) with company match
- Estimator training and a path to Bid Sales
- Room to grow with a national company that's expanding
- A supportive team that wants you to win
