POSITION SUMMARY
The Ultrasound Technologist performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations in accordance with provider orders, established protocols, and applicable safety and quality standards. Working under the direction of radiologists and other authorized medical staff, the technologist produces high-quality images that support the diagnosis and evaluation of injuries, disease processes, lesions, and other medical conditions. The role includes reviewing examination requests, preparing and positioning patients, operating ultrasound equipment, documenting relevant clinical information, and communicating findings and concerns to the appropriate clinical team. The technologist understands examination preparation and scheduling requirements, assists with departmental clerical functions as needed, and maintains the flexibility to work weekends and holidays based on department needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Performs a broad range of diagnostic ultrasound examinations, completes required measurements and calculations, and reviews images for technical quality and completeness before submission for interpretation.
· Applies knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology, ultrasound physics, equipment operation, and patient safety to each examination.
· Reviews orders, patient history, hospital records, and prior examinations to obtain clinically relevant information and confirm the appropriate procedure and preparation.
· Explains procedures, verifies patient identity, obtains cooperation, positions patients appropriately, and adapts care and communication to age, condition, and individual needs.
· Recognizes emergency conditions and initiates appropriate life-saving measures within the scope of training and hospital policy.
· Consults with radiologists, providers, and department staff regarding examinations, protocols, image quality, and workflow concerns.
· Supports the development and implementation of procedures, protocols, guidelines, and techniques that improve patient care, quality, and customer service.
· Maintain accurate records, reports, files, supplies, and inventory.
· Assists with scheduling, reception, telephone, messaging, and other clerical duties when needed.
· Participates in department inspections and activities conducted by licensing, regulatory, and accrediting agencies.
· Works independently, manages priorities effectively, and supports other Diagnostic Imaging functions when workload and competency permit.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
· Completion of an accredited diagnostic medical sonography program is required.
· Previous professional ultrasound experience is preferred, but new graduates may be considered based on clinical experience.
· Must be ARDMS registered or registry eligible.
WAGE AND COMPENSATION
Wage range $38.90 hr.- $74.09hr. - DOE Plus $ 5,000 Sign on Bonus
