Telit Cinterion is seeking a customer-facing Technical Solutions Architect with a strong hardware and connected-device focus to define customer-specific IoT solutions. This role works directly with customers to translate product and system requirements into high-level device architectures, technical proposals, SOW inputs, NRE estimates, and preliminary product cost estimates.
The ideal candidate has broad experience in IoT device architecture, including cellular and wireless connectivity, processors, sensors and peripherals, mechanical and environmental constraints, manufacturability, and regulatory and carrier certification. The architect will evaluate requirements, select appropriate technologies and components, define key hardware and system building blocks, and develop high-level BOM and solution cost estimates to assess technical and commercial feasibility.
The role also requires a working understanding of embedded firmware and device-to-cloud interactions, including communications, security, provisioning, and OTA updates. Serving as the technical bridge between customers, Program Management, R&D, Operations, and partners, the architect must balance cost, power, performance, reliability, manufacturability, certification, schedule, and security.
- Experience with SOW-based product development, NRE estimation, high-level BOM development and cost analysis, engineering schedules, and technical risk and assumption documentation.
- Strong understanding of connected-device hardware architecture, including processors/MCUs, cellular modules, sensors, power systems, RF/antennas, wired and wireless interfaces, and other major product building blocks.
- Experience with product development and commercialization workflows, including requirements, architecture, EVT/DVT/PVT, validation planning, regulatory/certification readiness, production ramp, and sustaining support.
- Experience integrating cellular (LTE, LTE-M/Cat M, NB-IoT, 5G), Wi-Fi, BLE/Bluetooth, GNSS, sensors, and embedded interfaces into commercial products.
- Working knowledge of embedded firmware and device-to-cloud interfaces, including communications protocols, security, provisioning, OTA/FOTA, and device management. Deep cloud architecture or cloud application development expertise is not required.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, technical documentation, and cross-functional leadership skills, including the ability to explain tradeoffs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with IoT hardware architecture and component selection, including processors/MCUs, cellular modules, sensors, power systems, RF/antennas, and embedded interfaces.
- Familiarity with regulatory, carrier, and product certification requirements such as FCC, ISED, CE/RED, PTCRB, and carrier approvals, including their impact on product architecture, cost, and schedule.
- Experience working with ODMs, contract manufacturers, distributed/offshore engineering teams, and customer engineering organizations to develop and commercialize connected devices.
- Knowledge of embedded firmware architecture and device lifecycle requirements, including OTA/FOTA, boot/update flows, rollback strategies, provisioning, remote configuration, and device management.
- Familiarity with device-to-cloud integration and IoT platforms such as AWS IoT, Azure IoT, or Telit deviceWISE, including device provisioning, authentication, data exchange, and lifecycle management.
- Engage directly with customers to understand device requirements, use cases, technical constraints, target cost, deployment environment, and success criteria, translating these into high-level product requirements, system architectures, interface definitions, and design assumptions.
- Define IoT device architectures spanning cellular and wireless connectivity, processors, sensors, peripherals, power architecture, antennas/RF, wired interfaces, embedded firmware, and mechanical considerations, with an understanding of how the device interfaces with cloud and backend systems.
- Define connectivity strategies using cellular technologies such as LTE, LTE-M, NB-IoT, and 5G, as well as Wi-Fi, BLE, GNSS, short-range wireless, and wired interfaces, selecting technologies based on coverage, power, performance, cost, and application requirements.
- Evaluate and recommend key technologies, components, modules, and system building blocks to meet customer requirements, product cost targets, and development objectives.
- Act as the primary technical interface between customer engineering teams and Telit R&D and Program Management, translating customer requirements into actionable device and system-level specifications.
- Work with internal engineering teams to develop high-level BOM and product cost estimates, NRE estimates, development schedules, validation requirements, certification impacts, technical risks, and SOW assumptions.
- Produce high-quality system block diagrams, architecture documents, technical proposals, SOW inputs, interface specifications, customer-facing design packages, and technical risk/tradeoff analyses.
- Develop reusable device architectures, reference designs, cost models, design guidelines, and estimation tools for future customer engagements.
- Participate in design and architecture reviews, risk assessments, implementation planning, validation readiness reviews, and technical issue resolution throughout the product lifecycle.
- Drive technical tradeoff analysis across BOM cost, power consumption, performance, RF/connectivity, reliability, manufacturability, certification, schedule, security, and long-term supportability.
Requirements & Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in IoT, embedded, wireless, cloud-connected products, or technical solutions architecture.
- Demonstrated customer-facing technical experience in requirements discovery, device and system architecture definition, technology/component selection, technical proposals, presentations, and SOW development.
- Experience with SOW-based product development, NRE estimation, high-level BOM development and cost analysis, engineering schedules, and technical risk and assumption documentation.
- Strong understanding of connected-device hardware architecture, including processors/MCUs, cellular modules, sensors, power systems, RF/antennas, wired and wireless interfaces, and other major product building blocks.
- Experience with product development and commercialization workflows, including requirements, architecture, EVT/DVT/PVT, validation planning, regulatory/certification readiness, production ramp, and sustaining support.
- Experience integrating cellular (LTE, LTE-M/Cat M, NB-IoT, 5G), Wi-Fi, BLE/Bluetooth, GNSS, sensors, and embedded interfaces into commercial products.
- Working knowledge of embedded firmware and device-to-cloud interfaces, including communications protocols, security, provisioning, OTA/FOTA, and device management. Deep cloud architecture or cloud application development expertise is not required.
