Oneida Professional Services is seeking a Systems Administrator to support the Defense Information School (DINFOS) Technology & Logistics Support Services contract at Fort Meade, Maryland. This position is responsible for administering, maintaining, and securing enterprise server environments and supporting the reliable operation of DINFOS information systems.
We are seeking a technically skilled and motivated Tier 2 Desktop Support Specialist to provide advanced workstation troubleshooting, application support, and technical escalation services within a Department of War (DoW) environment. This position serves as a critical bridge between the Tier 1 Service Desk and the Infrastructure/System Administration team, resolving complex endpoint issues, supporting workstation security and remediation efforts, and improving technical support processes. The ideal candidate is an analytical problem-solver with strong technical aptitude, a passion for technology, and a demonstrated commitment to continuous learning. This is a full-time, on-site position focused on Windows 11 workstations rather than frontline customer support or server administration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary technical escalation point for complex workstation and application issues that cannot be resolved by the Tier 1 Service Desk.
- Diagnose and resolve advanced Windows 11 operating system issues, including performance degradation, application failures, configuration errors, and system instability.
- Perform in-depth technical investigations using Windows Event Viewer, system logs, diagnostic utilities, and other troubleshooting resources to identify root causes.
- Troubleshoot desktop and laptop hardware, peripherals, and workstation-related connectivity or configuration issues.
- Investigate and remediate workstation vulnerabilities, security configuration deficiencies, and compliance-related findings in coordination with infrastructure and cybersecurity teams.
- Provide advanced troubleshooting and support for enterprise applications, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud, and other business-critical software.
- Act as a technical liaison between the Service Desk and Infrastructure/System Administration teams, performing workstation-level troubleshooting, configuration changes, and remediation activities as requested.
- Represent the Service Desk in technical discussions, operational events, and cross-functional initiatives with other departments.
- Identify recurring technical issues, perform root cause analysis, and develop sustainable solutions to improve workstation reliability and reduce repeated incidents.
- Develop, maintain, and improve Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), knowledge-base articles, and technical documentation to support consistent and effective troubleshooting.
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve escalation workflows, troubleshooting procedures, and overall IT support operations.
Required Qualifications:
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Windows 11 operating systems, including configuration, troubleshooting, maintenance, and system diagnostics.
- Demonstrated ability to independently investigate and resolve complex technical issues through analytical thinking, research, and methodical troubleshooting.
- Proficiency with Windows Event Viewer, system logs, and diagnostic utilities used to investigate operating system and application issues.
- Working knowledge of desktop and laptop hardware, peripherals, and common workstation-related troubleshooting techniques.
- Ability to troubleshoot enterprise applications, interpret error messages and diagnostic information, and identify underlying causes of application failures.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Active Directory concepts, including user accounts, computer objects, and common domain-related troubleshooting.
- Understanding of enterprise IT support practices, technical escalation procedures, and incident management workflows.
- Ability to create clear and accurate technical documentation, troubleshooting procedures, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to work effectively with Service Desk personnel, system administrators, cybersecurity teams, and organizational leadership.
- Demonstrated technical curiosity, initiative, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
- Ability to work full-time on-site within a Department of War facility and satisfy applicable government access and security requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CompTIA A+, Security+, Network+, or other equivalent certification.
- Active Secret security clearance or favorable Public Trust determination.
- Previous experience in a Tier 1 or Tier 2 Service Desk, Desktop Support, or enterprise IT support role.
- Experience supporting IT operations within a Department of War, federal government, or similarly regulated enterprise environment.
- Experience troubleshooting and supporting Adobe Creative Cloud applications, including installation, licensing, configuration, and application-specific issues.
- Experience supporting Microsoft Office applications and other commonly used enterprise productivity software.
- Familiarity with PowerShell scripting, basic automation concepts, or command-line troubleshooting tools.
- Experience investigating and remediating workstation vulnerabilities, security findings, or endpoint configuration issues.
- Experience developing technical documentation, improving troubleshooting procedures, or identifying opportunities for operational process improvement.
- Demonstrated independent technical learning, hands-on experimentation, or self-directed technical projects that reflect a strong interest in IT and continued skill development.
