POSITION SUMMARY

The Department of Economics at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Economics. The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. or ABD in economics or a closely related field. Review of applications will begin December 1st, 2023 and will continue until the position is filled. The beautiful campus of Benedictine College is situated in picturesque Atchison, KS on the bluffs above the Missouri River. Atchison is within an hour drive of major cities such as Kansas City, Saint Joseph, Lawrence, and Topeka as well as 35 minutes from the Kansas City International Airport. Benedictine College has a full-time undergraduate enrollment of approximately 2100 students and is a mission-centered academic community. Its mission as a Catholic, Benedictine, liberal arts, and residential college is the education of men and women within a community of faith and scholarship. Benedictine College provides a liberal arts education through academic programs based on a core of studies in the arts and sciences. In addition, the college provides education for careers through both professional courses of study and major programs in the liberal arts and sciences. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The essential function is to teach courses in economics, preferably in macroeconomics. Knowledge of and commitment to Catholic social teaching will be a positive factor in the hiring decision. Otherwise, field of specialization is open. A typical course load is 12 credit hours per semester. Courses vary in number of credit hours, but the teaching load typically requires teaching 3-4 courses per semester. Preference will be given to candidates who are committed to teaching excellence. Additional responsibilities include engagement in and service to the department, college, and community. The successful candidate will maintain a strong research agenda and broad teaching interests.
