Organizational Overview
Health Care Without Harm (HCWH) is an international nongovernmental organization (NGO) dedicated to transforming the healthcare sector into a leader for environmental health and justice. Working globally, HCWH collaborates with healthcare professionals, hospitals, NGOs, governments, and international entities to promote environmentally healthy practices in healthcare. The organization focuses on reducing the environmental footprint of the healthcare sector and acting as a community anchor for sustainability. With regional offices in the United States, Europe, and Southeast Asia, a regional team in Latin America and a Global secretariat, and a network of strategic partners across continents, HCWH fosters global and regional collaborations to address climate and health issues, supported by a global team. Its Global Green and Healthy Hospitals (GGHH) network has over 2,000 members in 86 countries who represent the interests of more than 70,000 hospitals and health centers. The network serves as one of the key vehicles through which the organization and its partners engage directly with the health care sector on the ground around the world and supports facilities in their transformation to becoming low carbon, resilient and sustainable.
Over the past decade, HCWH has seen significant growth in its global program portfolio and a significant recognition of HCWH global network role from key stakeholders in the health and environmental sector at the national and global levels. As we step into the next phase of our journey with a new Global strategic plan that spans 2024 through 2028, the organization is poised to elevate its sustainability work to new heights. Our new Global strategic plan includes a particular focus on plastics and the health care supply chain, connecting this work to our overarching goal of accelerating the health care sector on its path toward decarbonization and resilience as a leader in the societal transition away from fossil fuels.
On plastics, our goal is that the health care sector frames the plastics crisis as a health crisis, to advance decarbonization and detoxification and end plastic pollution. Our supply chain transformation goal is for the health sector to leverage its voice and purchasing power to decarbonize and detoxify its supply chain, targeting key global policy fora like G20 and ATACH and engaging key health sector institutions and large purchasers. We also aim to mobilize and engage our global hospital network members by promoting and developing strong criteria and tools for decarbonization and detoxification.
The International Supply Chain Transformation Director will play a pivotal role in this transformative phase, leading efforts to innovate, integrate, and inspire through dynamic and influential strategies that resonate across diverse global platforms.
We are steadfast in our commitment to fostering culturally and ethnically diverse organizations and upholding principles that promote inclusive practices. We are dedicated to building a diverse staff and engaging employees with the expertise and interest to serve the mission of the organizations in respectful ways. HCWH proudly stands as an Equal Opportunity Employer, ensuring every individual's contribution is valued in our collective pursuit of environmental health and justice.
