Description
Basic Function: Operates tow motor (fork lift) to move bundles of lumber into and out of designated areas.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Works from verbal and written instructions as provided by supervisor or other authorized person.
- Moves lumber to all locations on lumber yard; some lumber is strapped securely and remainder of lumber is not strapped.
- Loads and unloads kilns, pre-dryer, steam box, stacking racks, tally chains, and trucks as required. Loads Sticks into the stick shuttle.
- Sets lumber on cross pieces and cross pieces on lumber according to established procedures to prevent damage to lumber.
- Moves from work area to work area as needed to maintain flow of production.
- Drives large tow motor (fork lift) as required depending on bundle size and loading requirements on any specific job. Must be trained and qualified prior to operation of any size tow motor (fork lift) (e.g. does not operate another powered vehicle unless properly trained and certified).
- Maintain tow motor (fork lift) in good operation condition.
- Cleans work area as required.
- Observes good housekeeping practices and prescribed safety precautions.
Requirements
Qualifications and Required Skills:
- Tow motor (fork lift) license is a plus
- High School Diploma or GED
- 3 months of previous tow motor (fork lift) work experience is desired
- Frequently lifts 25-30 lbs. occasionally lifts boards in excess of 50 lbs. Lifting accomplished anywhere from ground to shoulder level or occasionally above the head.
- Ability to climb on and off the forklift throughout the day
- Attention to detail and patience are crucial
- Previous experience with chain saws, tape measures, hand tools, air and electric powered tools are a plus
