About the Job 

RAISE is an employment preparation and social skills training program for adults with disabilities who are seeking employment but face challenges finding work. The 2026 RAISE cohort runs from September 2026 through May 2027, during which time RAISE participants will be provided with temporary job placements, volunteer job coaching, and weekly Lunch & Learn classes. Through completion of this program, RAISE participants build critical social skills, self-esteem, independent living skills, and work experience. 

You’ll wow us by masterfully performing the following key duties and responsibilities:   

• Participants will work two 3-hour shifts each week at their designated job sites and will attend a weekly 60-minute Lunch & Learn.
• Commit to making RAISE a priority, including attending two weekly jobsite shifts and the weekly one-hour Lunch and Learn.
• For security reasons, all RAISE employees must pass a background check prior to beginning work. If selected as a RAISE employee, Shalom Austin will cover the cost of your background check.
• All other duties as assigned. 

RAISE maintains an open "rolling" application process which allows you to submit applications at any time, but interviews will be conducted once annually for the upcoming cohort. Interviews for the 2026-2027 cohort will begin around May 2026.

• No previous work experience necessary.
• Be currently unemployed. 
• Be post-high school (completion/graduation is not required).
• Able to stand, sit, walk, and communicate with others.
• Have (or open) an active file with Texas Workforce Commission Vocational Rehabilitation Program for the duration of RAISE 
• Have reliable transportation. 
• Have a family liaison (usually family, but may also be a case manager, adult friend, etc.) who will commit to attending the hiring meeting, key program events, and occasional meetings if needed.
