Summary of Role

The MRI Technologist is responsible for performing high-quality magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans. This role requires expertise in patient positioning, equipment operation, and safety protocols. Technologists collaborate closely with orthopaedic surgeons to ensure accurate imaging for diagnosis and treatment planning. Key responsibilities include preparing patients for procedures, ensuring the integrity of imaging protocols, maintaining equipment, and assisting in patient care. Strong communication skills and attention to detail are essential, along with a commitment to providing compassionate care in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform MRI imaging procedures on appropriate anatomical regions in accordance with accepted standards of practice and protocols.
  • Complete and sign patient screening form and explain the procedure to the patient.
  • Maintain patient care, comfort, and safety during the exam.
  • Maintain technical competency through continued education.
  • Under guidance and approval of physicians, administer contrast agents according to site-specific protocols.
  • Cooperate with facility healthcare personnel and comply with facility policies and procedures.
  • Maintain current permits to practice in all states in which services are performed.
  • Provide images to the facility in the desired site format.
  • Prepare release of information requests for patients and outside providers.
  • Perform equipment quality checks and troubleshoot problems. Call for service and notify all pertinent team members.
  • May assist with the set up and tear down of equipment in accordance with manufacturers’ guidelines.
  • Maintain a clean environment.
  • Clean the MRI room to avoid infection and prepare for the treatment of future patients.
  • Complete necessary administrative tasks.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Cooperate with facility healthcare professionals and comply with facility policies/procedures.
  • Comply with all safety policies and regulations.
  • Compliant with MRI safety.
  •  Compliant with ACR Phantom Scanning and ACR accreditation 


Minimum Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Certified MRI Technologist
  • Graduate of an approved two-year radiologic technology program
  • Registered with American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or be registry eligible and possess a permit to practice where applicable.
  • Valid, current, unrestricted Wisconsin state radiation operator certificate (with no limitations, stipulations or pending adverse actions)
  • CPR/AED certified

 

Skills and Requirements:

  • Must be registered with American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or be registry eligible and possess a permit to practice where applicable.
  • Must be able to interact with client personnel and team members in an autonomous responsible, professional and ethical manner.
  • Must be accommodating, reliable and flexible to physician requests
  • Must be able to produce high-quality MRI images with minimal supervision while adhering to established protocols and quality standards.
  • Must be willing and able to assist the Radiologist in his/her interpretation of exams.
  • Must be able to function effectively in both independent and collaborative team-oriented healthcare environments.
  • Must be flexible, reliable and demonstrate sound judgment and initiative.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 60 pounds as well as assist with patient maneuvering.
  • Must be familiar with age specific criteria.
  • Able to demonstrate competency in all applicable areas.
  • Knowledge of medical anatomy and terminology.
  • Must be detailed orientated with excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, judgment, communication and analytical skills; sometimes under pressure.
  • Ability to multi-task and maintain an efficient workflow.
  • Cooperative and professional behavior toward patients, peers, providers, management and visitors.
  • Must be willing to work flexible schedules, including evenings and weekends, as operational needs require.
  • Ability to promote favorable facility image with patients, providers, insurance companies and general public.
  • Ability to make decisions and solve problems.
  • The ability to contribute in a team environment and and/or independently, to provide excellent customer service.
  • Skilled in proper x-ray positioning & techniques and following prescribed safety standards.
  • Working knowledge of EPIC & McKesson PACs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

  • Ability to lift and maneuver a minimum of 60 pounds and assist with patient positioning and transfers.
  • Primary work environment includes MRI and imaging departments within an orthopedic practice, clinic, or hospital setting, including imaging suites, patient preparation areas, and nursing stations.
  • Frequent direct interaction with patients to prepare them for imaging procedures, provide care during examinations, and address questions or concerns.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities and patient schedules.
  • Adherence to all MRI safety standards, infection prevention protocols, and organizational safety policies.
  • Frequent use of MRI and diagnostic imaging equipment, requiring strict compliance with safety procedures to protect patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive movements for extended periods throughout the workday.
