Description

 Brighter Transition Youth Treatment Center is seeking an Overnight Youth Counselor to provide direct supervision to adolescents. The Overnight Youth Counselor will serve as a role model and provide support and structure to the residents in our care.


About Brighter Transition YTC:

Established in 2013, Brighter Transition YTC is a step down, transition program for males age 16-20 that have completed a long-term residential program. Our campus is located 7 miles west of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Our academy offers a year-round academic program provided by the local school district. Currently, Brighter Transition YTC serves state of South Dakota Department of Corrections commitments.


  

About Falls Academy:

Established in 2018, Falls Academy is certified as a Qualified Residential Treatment Program (QRTP), which is a type of residential treatment center designed specifically for youth ages 13 - 21 who require more intensive therapeutic interventions. QRTPs were established under the Families First Prevention Services Act (FFPSA) passed in 2018 to ensure that youth receive high quality care that addresses their complex emotional, behavioral and educational needs. Family involvement is key in the treatment process to transition back to the home or community. 


Overnight Youth Counselor Responsibilities:

  • Maintain safety, accountability and security of campus
  • Bed Checks - Use a geothermal imager judiciously to insure a correct student count and identification of the youth. This will be performed within every 10 minutes (6 times an hour), not to be a repetitive pattern. Only one youth at a time may have permission to go to the restroom. At no time should the students be left unsupervised. 
  • Teach, coach and supervise students in activities of daily living including morning, bedtime and overnight procedures, hygiene and cleanliness, housekeeping, meals, intramurals, sports, academics, and extracurricular activities both on and off campus
  • Observe the peer culture for patterns of behavior indicating progress or regression in the program
  • Recognize escalating behaviors and intervene at the appropriate level to ensure safety and security

Requirements

Youth Counselor Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or GED is required
  • Must be 21 years old
