Shift: Tuesday - Saturday (8:00 am - 4:30 pm)

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Diesel Mechanic Helper to join our fleet maintenance team. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the inspection, maintenance, and repair of Class 7 and Class 8 tractors, trailers, and related equipment. This position plays a key role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of MVE fleet operations and supports our terminals by minimizing breakdowns, improving asset longevity, and keeping equipment road-ready.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist mechanics and technicians with maintenance and repair on tractors, trailers, forklifts, and other fleet equipment using modern tools and diagnostic technology.

• Assist mechanics and technicians with routine services and adjustments on Class 7 and Class 8 diesel equipment to ensure vehicle reliability and readiness.

• Assist mechanics and technicians to repair or rebuild mechanical components and systems as needed to maintain optimal equipment performance.

• Assist mechanics and technicians with completing DOT-mandated safety inspections and required documentation accurately and timely.

• Keep work areas, tools, and equipment clean and orderly. 

• Help maintain compliance with DOT, EPA, OSHA, and applicable regulations to meet legal and safety standards.

• Possession and use of personal hand tools for diesel and tractor-trailer work is strongly preferred.

• Hydraulic system experience is preferred but not required.


Skills & Attributes

• Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills with a basic understanding of tools, engines, and mechanical systems

• Ability to work collaboratively within a shop environment

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, bend, squat, and work in various conditions. 

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety

• Ability to manage time efficiently and meet operational repair demands

• Familiarity with DOT and OSHA compliance requirements

Requirements

 

Minimum Requirements

• Education and Experience: 2+ years of technical training or equivalent experience in diesel or heavy truck maintenance

o Ability to obtain EPA HVAC Refrigerant Recovery & Recycling Certification (ASE, MACS, or equivalent) within 90 days of hire

o Ability to work varying shifts including days, evenings, nights, and overtime as required.


Compensation

· Compensation: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour based on experience and location.

· Classification: Non-Exempt, subject to all applicable state and federal laws.
