JOB SUMMARY

The Osceola Library System is seeking a Collection Services Manager to manage the daily workflow of the Collection Services, including the Library’s Call Center and Courier teams. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively as part of a leadership team to support the development and maintenance of library collections; promote access to, and the use of library collections; and analyze and report on trends and recommendations for selecting and maintaining a dynamic and beneficial collection system wide. This is a professional position with expectations for independent, analytical work along with expectations to collaborate and communicate across Library departments; foster creativity and innovation in service and resource delivery; and support public service and strategic priorities.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES

An individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.

  • Provide oversight for the selection, acquisition, cataloging, processing, and maintenance of the Library’s physical and digital collections in collaboration with the LS&S Collection Management Team.
  • Monitor collection performance to improve upon collection development and management practices and outcomes.
  • Coordinate and collaborate on special projects and a variety of programs for the public, such as book clubs, reading festivals, displays, collection initiatives, etc., that further engagement in reading and collection use. 
  • Hire, supervise, guide, and train assigned work teams toward success, to include Collection Services Associates, Call Center and Couriers.
  • Participate in Library leadership for strategic planning and initiative implementation
  • Provide analytical and statistical reporting for Library, County, or LS&S leadership
  • Collaborate with others to ensure community and stakeholder support and to reinforce the Library as an important community connector
  • Stay informed of current trends in collections, publishing, programming, Library services, technology, etc. 
  • Attend and represent the Library at meetings, conferences, conventions, and workshops 
  • Know and understand the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read Statement, and Freedom to View Statement, recognizing that freedom of access is a fundamental tenet of a public library. In addition to these freedoms, support client discretion of materials available at local libraries.
  • Follow all legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and custodianship of patron records
Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS  

An individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education, training, and/or work experience required.

  • ALA-accredited MLS or MLIS required; an equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, and training may be considered with BA/BS required
  • At least 2+ years’ direct supervisory experience with dedication to developing staff, including motivating, training, mentoring, and leading teams to success
  • Adaptable to change with excellent problem-solving, communication, and listening skills
  • Service-oriented with experience creating and delivering creative and useful public services
  • Experience with collection development, acquisitions, budgeting, publishing trends, MARC records, cataloging principles, and collection management 
  • Avid and eclectic reader
  • Great organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and evenings
  • Tech-savvy and adaptable to new technology skills

  

Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to sit for long periods of time and to maintain focus on projects such as computer screens or detailed paperwork. 
  • Lift, push/pull, hold/carry of items weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds such as files, books, and other materials.
