RAM Aerospace is a leader in aerospace innovation, powering flight and space exploration with precision solenoids, valves, and actuators. Since 1975, we’ve supported missions like the Space Shuttle and continue to deliver mission-critical components for commercial, defense, and satellite systems. As one of Southern Utah’s largest employers, we drive economic growth and offer high-skilled careers in engineering and manufacturing. From our advanced facility in St. George, we build the future of aerospace—on time, with excellence, and as a team. Join us to work on groundbreaking technology and help shape the future of flight and space exploration. Your career takes off here!
As our CNC Machinist, you are the sculptor of the aerospace industry. You will transform solid blocks of raw material into the intricate, flight-critical components that house our solenoids, valves, and actuators. Operating advanced CNC lathes and milling machines, you will hold tolerances tighter than a human hair to ensure every part functions flawlessly in the extreme environments of space and flight. You won't just be pushing a green button; you will be setting up fixtures, proving out new programs, and diagnosing machine performance on the fly. If you have a passion for precision, a deep understanding of metal properties, and the mechanical intuition to make a machine sing, we want you to build the future with us.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Machine Setup & Operation: Set up, adjust, and operate a variety of advanced CNC machine tools (including lathes and milling machines) to perform high-precision machining operations. You will align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, and raw materials.
- Machining & Monitoring: Monitor the feeds and speeds of machines during the cutting process. You will observe and listen closely to operating equipment to diagnose malfunctions and determine the need for immediate adjustments.
- Quality & Measurement: Measure and examine completed units using precision instruments (such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges) to detect defects and ensure strict conformance to aerospace specifications.
- Programming & Prove-Outs: Set controls to regulate machining and perform basic programming edits at the machine. You will confer with numerical control (NC) programmers to "prove out" new programs, ensuring they function safely and that the output meets all specifications.
- Process Optimization: Follow prepared instructions outlining the methods and sequences of fabrication. You will proactively recommend changes or modifications to setups, tooling, or programs to improve shop efficiency and adaptability.
- Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Select the appropriate tools and materials for machinery preparation and perform minor, routine preventative maintenance on your equipment to ensure zero downtime.
- Legal: Must be able to pass a comprehensive criminal background check and drug screening.
- ITAR: Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum (due to ITAR requirements).
- Age: Must be at least 18 years old.
- Education: High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) is required. A 1-year Certificate in Machining Proficiency or Machine Tool Technology is highly preferred.
- Experience: 1–2 years of applicable experience in CNC machine setup and operation within a manufacturing environment.
- Technical Skills: Strong applied knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, and metal properties. You must be able to read complex blueprints and comfortably use precision measuring instruments.
- Problem Solving: Excellent mechanical aptitude. You must be able to troubleshoot issues at the spindle, collaborating effectively with engineering and supervisory personnel to exchange technical information.
- Physical Demands: Must be able to lift and carry up to 70 lbs safely (handling heavy fixtures, chucks, or raw material). Must be able to sit and stand constantly throughout the shift. Must possess excellent manual dexterity, handling and using tools constantly.
