Job Summary
Seasonal part-time position, under the supervision of an Assistant Branch Manager, Youth Services, responsible for assisting with the Summer Reading Program.
Core Job Functions
- Greets customers and provides directions or refers them to appropriate staff members for customer service
- Assists children and teens in using Library resources
- Assists with storytimes
- Develops early learning activities and hand-outs
- Assists with Summer Reading Program activities and sign ups
- Restocks displays and straightens shelves in the youth services and teen departments
- Monitors activity in the youth services department
- Monitors the Library to maintain a safe environment
- Performs other duties and participates in special projects, as assigned

- Technological systems and their uses

- Learn St. Mary’s County Library policies and procedures
- Work with youth of all ages
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, Library trustees, local government elected and appointed officials, community leaders, vendors, and citizens
- Use common sense and good judgement
Skills:
- Excellent communication skills, both in writing and orally
- Excellent customer service skills
- Excellent decision-making and problem solving skills with emphasis on personal responsibility and willingness to deal with issues at hand
Training and/or Education
High School Diploma or GED

Physical Demands
Work requires light physical effort in the handling of materials or boxes in non-strenuous work positions not to exceed 30 pounds and/or standing and/or walking 75%+ of the time.
Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices or meeting rooms, e.g., use of safe work place practices with office equipment, and/or avoidance of trips and falls.

Four Intern positions available
Location: 1 Intern at each Library branch: Lexington Park Library, Leonardtown Library, Charlotte Hall Library, Mobile Library
Schedule: 10 weeks,
3 Interns at 21 hours per week - schedule to be determined.
1 Intern at 28 hours per week - Mobile Library - schedule to be determined.
June 8 - August 14
