The Food Service Assistant supports the school’s food service program by assisting with meal preparation, service, cleanup, and student supervision during meal times. This role helps ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming dining environment while promoting positive social interactions among students. By supporting the food service team, the Food Service Assistant contributes to student health, wellness, and readiness to learn.
Compensation and Benefits
- Part-time, Non-exempt
- Hourly pay based on education and experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Basic knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain within 60 days of hire)
Preferred
- Previous experience in food service or working in a school environment
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with the preparation, setup, and serving of meals in accordance with nutrition and safety guidelines.
- Supervise students during lunch and recess to ensure a safe and orderly environment.
- Encourage positive social interactions and model respectful behavior during meal times.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen, serving areas, and dining spaces.
- Support the breakdown, cleaning, and sanitizing of food service equipment and areas after meals.
- Assist in monitoring inventory and organizing food and supplies.
- Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents as needed.
- Participate in required training and staff meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Food Service Manager or school leadership.
