Assistant Controller
Description


Purpose


As a senior member of the finance team, your most important role will be to set an example for other team members with your person-centered approach to finance. Realizing that every task we undertake ultimately leads back to supporting people and ensuring their needs are met. Supporting and protecting their financial interests and advocating for their right to choose is essential. Empowering everyone to participate in their financial process. Your primary role will be to monitor all revenue and expense activities for the agency, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP standards. Also, to assist the Controller in maintaining internal control processes. 

  

Essential Functions:

  • Assisting with closing process including posting journal entries, preparing financial statements and monthly Board reports
  • Monitors all revenue and expense for accuracy and analyzes variances
  • Reconcile various GL accounts including cash, construction in process, leases, prepaid expenses, investments and long-term debt
  • Review and approval of various payable transactions ensuring proper GL coding
  • Assists in the training of new finance staff
  • Assists in monitoring and enforcing internal controls
  • Assists with internal audits
  • Mitigates Agency risk by helping to monitor and enforce policies and procedures
  • Assists as a point of contact during annual audits
  • Assists in the preparation of the annual Consolidated Fiscal Report (CFR)
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge through workshops and professional publications
  • Oversee daily financial operations in the absence of the Controller
Requirements


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance preferred; OR five years’ experience in non-profit accounting considered
  • Documented experience with computerized accounting software (Saga Intacct) and proficient MS Office
  • Experience with month close processes and closing journal entries
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Strong communication and team building skills
  • Ability to present numerical data effectively, and to read and interpret written information
  • Demonstrated accuracy and thoroughness and monitors own work to ensure quality
  • Adherence to Agency policies including Attendance Policy
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License, acceptable to Agency insurance standards preferred
  • Maintain valid insurance and provide insurance card if you use your own vehicle

Salary Description
$28.85 - $35.85 / hour
