Superior Rigging and Erecting is seeking a Learning and Development Manager to build and lead a company-wide workforce development function in a high-risk construction environment.
This is not a traditional corporate training role. This position is responsible for designing and implementing practical, field-driven training programs that directly improve safety performance, leadership capability, and operational execution across the organization.
The Learning and Development Manager will build structured learning programs from the ground up, including onboarding, leadership development, craft and equipment training, and safety-related workforce capability programs.
This role requires strong operational awareness, the ability to work directly with field leadership, and the ability to translate real jobsite conditions into scalable and effective training solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Learning Strategy and Workforce Development
- Build and implement a structured “SRE University” model supporting onboarding, leadership development, and ongoing workforce training
- Develop and execute a learning strategy aligned with operational goals, safety expectations, and leadership standards
- Establish company-wide learning standards, governance, and accountability
Training Needs Analysis and Operational Partnership
- Partner with Operations, Safety, and Project Management leadership to identify workforce capability gaps
- Observe field operations and jobsite execution to identify skill gaps, behavioral risks, and development opportunities
- Prioritize training initiatives based on operational impact, risk, and business need
Curriculum Design and Program Development
- Design and develop leadership, technical, operational, and safety training programs
- Create practical, field-relevant learning content including instructor-led training, workshops, simulations, and job aids
- Develop structured learning pathways for supervisors, project managers, and operational leaders
- Establish certification-style training programs for key operational roles
Training Delivery and Facilitation
- Facilitate training sessions for field supervisors, managers, and operational leaders
- Deliver training focused on leadership effectiveness, communication, accountability, performance management, and safety leadership
- Coach internal leaders and subject matter experts to deliver consistent, high-quality training
Learning Systems and Training Administration
- Administer and optimize training programs within Paylocity Learning and related systems
- Ensure training assignments, completion tracking, and reporting are accurate and audit-ready
- Maintain training documentation supporting compliance and safety requirements
Measurement and Continuous Improvement
- Establish metrics to measure training effectiveness and operational impact
- Analyze performance data, training feedback, and workforce trends to improve programs
- Provide leadership reporting on training outcomes, participation, and business impact
Leadership Development and Succession Support
- Build leadership development programs for supervisors and emerging leaders
- Support succession planning for critical operational roles
- Partner with Human Resources leadership to align learning programs with workforce planning
Outcomes and Measures of Success
- New hires are trained and job-ready within defined onboarding timelines
- Supervisors demonstrate consistent leadership behaviors across jobsites
- Training programs are actively used in field operations and daily work
- Measurable improvement in safety performance, workforce capability, and operational consistency
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Education, Business, or related field, or equivalent experience
- Strong knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies
- Experience with learning management systems, preferably Paylocity Learning
- Strong facilitation, communication, and leadership skills
- Ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment
- 8+ years of progressive experience in learning and development, workforce training, or organizational development
- Experience building training or workforce development programs from the ground up
- Experience supporting operations in construction, manufacturing, industrial, or other field-based environments
- Proven ability to train and influence frontline supervisors, field leaders, and operational teams
- Demonstrated ability to translate operational challenges into structured training programs
- Experience measuring training effectiveness through performance outcomes
Candidates without experience supporting field operations or building training programs in operational environments will not be considered.
