JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary / Objective
The Facilities and Utilities Technician is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of all building systems, utilities, and facility infrastructure that support VanTran’s manufacturing operations. This role ensures reliable performance of electrical distribution, HVAC, compressed air, plumbing, fire protection, water, wastewater, and other utility systems while maintaining a safe, compliant, and efficient work environment. The Facilities and Utilities Technician supports production by keeping all facility and utility systems operating at peak reliability.

Essential Functions

• Daily on-site attendance.
• Operate, monitor, and maintain facility utility systems including electrical distribution, HVAC, compressed air, plumbing, water, wastewater, and fire protection systems.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on facility equipment such as air compressors, chillers, boilers, pumps, cooling towers, exhaust systems, and lighting.
• Troubleshoot and repair facility and utility system failures to minimize downtime and safety risk.
• Perform routine inspections of buildings, roofs, grounds, and mechanical rooms to identify maintenance needs or hazards.
• Maintain compliance with OSHA, fire code, environmental, and safety regulations related to facilities and utilities.
• Document all work orders, inspections, and repairs in the CMMS.
• Coordinate with the Facilities Supervisor and Maintenance Supervisor when facility issues impact production equipment.
• Assist with lockout/tagout, energy isolation, and safety procedures related to facility systems.
• Support installation, commissioning, and upgrades of facility and utility equipment.
• Perform minor construction, fabrication, and repair work including drywall, doors, piping, lighting, and structural components.
• Monitor energy usage and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce operating costs.
• Assist with oversight of onsite contractors performing facility, utility, and capital work, ensuring they follow VanTran safety policies, wear required PPE, and comply with company and regulatory guidelines.
• Report unsafe contractor behavior or noncompliance immediately to the Facilities Supervisor.
• Maintain tools, spare parts, and work areas in clean and organized condition (5S).
• Respond to emergency facility issues including power, water, HVAC, or safety system failures.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no direct reports.

Environment / Physical Requirements

The ideal candidate must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and access rooftops and utility areas.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and crawl in tight spaces.
• Exposure to noise, heat, cold, electrical equipment, and industrial environments.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, with availability for off-shift or emergency response as required. Occasional overtime or weekend work may be required based on facility needs.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 3–5 years of experience in facilities, utilities, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or industrial building maintenance.
• Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred.
• Working knowledge of building systems, utility infrastructure, and safety regulations required.
• Certification in HVAC, electrical, or building maintenance a plus.
