Westwood Professional Services, Inc is hiring a Manager of Dynamic Studies to join our team! The Manager of Dynamic Studies leads the execution and technical oversight of power system dynamic and EMT studies for renewable generation facilities, including solar, wind, and energy storage projects. This role is responsible for developing and managing a team of engineers performing positive-sequence and electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulations, ensuring technical excellence, consistency, and timely project delivery.

Responsibilities:

  • Grow, lead and manage a team of engineers   performing dynamic and EMT studies for renewable energy projects.
  • Provide technical oversight and QA/QC for all   dynamic modeling and EMT analysis deliverables.
  • Develop and validate power system models (in   positive-sequence and EMT software packages) for renewable facilities,   including solar, wind, and energy storage systems.
  • Perform and oversee EMT studies in PSCAD   including, but not limited to, TOV, TRV, transformer energization and   in-rush, and capacitor bank switching studies.
  • Support project developers and owners through   the interconnection process by interconnection modeling (both positive   sequence and EMT) and assisting with completing interconnection applications   for various RTOs (CAISO, NYISO, MISO, ERCOT, etc.).
  • Monitor evolving ISO/RTO modeling requirements   and emerging technical standards impacting inverter-based resources.
  • Establish internal modeling standards, best   practices, and quality control procedures.
  • Coordinate with project managers, protection   engineers, equipment vendors, and clients to ensure alignment of study scope   and technical assumptions.
  • Support business development efforts by   contributing to proposals, technical scoping, and client presentations.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support   professional development within the dynamic studies team.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Approximately 10 years of experience in renewable   energy and/or closely related power system modeling.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering   or a closely related field with a power systems focus.
  • Experience conducting dynamics, short   circuit, load flow, and/or EMT simulations including the modeling and   representation of IBRs and other power system components
  • Experience with the resource interconnection process,   modeling guidelines, and requirements for various regions throughout North   America (CAISO, ERCOT, etc.)
  • Experience using power system analysis tools,   specifically, PSS®E, PSLF, PSCAD, and Aspen.
  • Demonstrated experience leading, mentoring,   and providing technical oversight to engineers performing dynamic and EMT   studies.
  • Must be detail-oriented, with strong   problem-solving skills and a commitment to quality.
  • Must be a supportive team player, capable of   working effectively in cross-functional teams and managing relationships with   external vendors and stakeholders.

Preferred   Qualifications:

  • Experience in programming languages such as   Python, R, and/or VBA.
  • Experience with DSATools (PSAT, TSAT) or other   dynamic security assessment tools.
  • Experience writing or modifying PSS®E   user-defined models.
  • Experience with DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
  • Experience performing model validation and   verification for dynamic and EMT models.
