Controls Engineer
Description

 POSITION OBJECTIVE:

The Controls Engineer role at Mikron Automation is ideal for professionals with foundational experience in automation and mechanical design. You’ll contribute independently to the development of scalable, high-performance automation platforms, supporting life-saving pharmaceutical and medical technologies, as well as automotive and consumer goods industries.

Requirements

DUTIES:

  • Product Knowledge – Apply working knowledge of Mikron products, platforms, and engineering standards to support design and development.
  • Design - Independently design and integrate automation components, systems, or software.
  • Fine-Tune & Testing – Execute and support system testing, troubleshooting, and debug activities with increasing independence during development, build, and commissioning phases. Identify root causes of issues and propose solutions.
  • Customer & Project Interaction – Participate actively in internal and customer-facing meetings, providing technical input and supporting project execution.
  • Tools & Systems - Proficiently use engineering tools and systems (e.g., CAD, PDM, PLC/HMI software, vision platforms) to support design and documentation.
  • Documentation & Standards – Create, maintain, and review engineering documentation (e.g., drawings, BOMs, specifications) in accordance with project and company standards.
  • Compliance & Safety - Ensure adherence to safety protocols and engineering standards.
  • Support & Flexibility - Provide support across project phases including design, build, validation, installation, and post-installation service. Mentor junior engineers. Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in automation and controls preferred.

Technical Qualifications:

  • Proficient in Allen-Bradley PLC and HMI programming and best practices.
  • Proficient with industrial control systems and architectures.
  • Proficient with electrical hardware and schematics for industrial machinery.
  • Proficient with setup and basic troubleshooting of local and remote I/O.
  • Proficient in servo and VFD configuration and tuning.
  • Proficient with integration of third-party equipment.
  • Proficient with industrial networking protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP).
  • Proficient in applying electrical standards (NFPA 79, UL 508A, NEC).
  • Familiar with object-oriented programming (e.g., C#) and scripting tools.


Employment Qualifications:

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States, have a valid state driver license and be eligible to obtain a passport for international travel
  • Ability to fluently speak, read and write in English. 
  • Must be able to travel or work flexible hours as required for project deliverables.
  • Mikron Corporation Denver is a drug free working environment.
  • Must be able to work on-site at least three days per week at Mikron Automation’s facility. Remote work may be permitted for up to two days per week, subject to project requirements and team alignment.

Work Environment

Salary Description
$90,000-$105,000/year
