Take pride in precision. Build your skills. See the job through.
Bay Cast Technologies is looking for CNC Machinists at Levels II, and III to support our large-format machining operation. Our team produces precision components for aerospace, defense, energy, and industrial customers—where quality, accuracy, and attention to detail matter.
Whether you are building your machining foundation, expanding your setup experience, or bringing advanced programming and troubleshooting skills, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to challenging work and continue developing your craft.
We’re looking for machinists who take ownership of their work, adapt when conditions change, and follow through until the job is done right. This is a role for someone who can recognize when something needs attention, work through problems, and maintain a strong focus on quality and safety.
What You’ll Do
All Levels
- Set and verify work and tool offsets using traditional methods, including edge finders, paper/shim, 1-2-3 blocks, and test indicators.
- Read and follow manufacturing drawings, job travelers, and standard work instructions.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Take responsibility for producing accurate, reliable work.
Level II – CNC Machinist
- Perform moderate-complexity setups, including large-part setups.
- Operate medium 3-axis vertical milling centers, horizontal boring mills, medium gantry machines, and vertical turret lathes.
- Run established programs and make minor G-code edits for speeds, feeds, and offsets.
- Machine surface plates, frames, and commercial-grade components to tolerances of ±0.005".
- Perform and document in-process inspections.
- Identify process or program concerns and communicate them to Level III machinists or programming.
Level III – CNC Machinist
- Perform complex setups on large-scale machined components.
- Operate large gantry machines, 3+2 and full 5-axis equipment, and vertical turret lathes with or without C/Y-axis live tooling.
- Machine aerospace and complex commercial-grade components to tolerances of ±0.001".
- Independently edit and troubleshoot CNC programs.
- Improve machining strategies to support efficiency, accuracy, and tool life.
- Resolve complex machining, fixturing, and quality issues.
- Mentor Level I and II machinists and collaborate with programming and engineering.
What We’re Looking For
Level II
- 2–5 years of job shop CNC machining experience.
- Ability to read and interpret manufacturing drawings and job instructions.
- Working knowledge of G & M code, including minor program edits.
- Experience setting up, operating, troubleshooting, and changing tools.
- Experience with Heidenhain, Siemens, or Fanuc controllers.
- Large-format machining experience is a strong plus.
- Strong GD&T interpretation skills preferred.
- Ability to identify and work through minor process or program issues independently.
Level III
- 5+ years of advanced CNC machining experience.
- Advanced ability to interpret manufacturing drawings and job instructions.
- Strong G & M code knowledge and ability to edit and troubleshoot programs independently.
- Experience setting up and operating multiple machine types.
- Experience with Heidenhain, Siemens, and Fanuc controllers.
- Required experience machining large-scale or large-format parts.
- Strong GD&T interpretation and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to resolve complex machining, fixturing, and quality issues.
- Willingness to mentor less experienced machinists and collaborate with programming and engineering.
Manual machining experience is a plus at all levels.
The Kind of Machinist Who Will Succeed
You take ownership of your work and care about getting the details right. You can adjust when a setup, process, or priority changes without losing sight of the end goal. You’re practical, resourceful, and comfortable working through challenges rather than waiting for someone else to solve them.
You understand that precision machining takes patience, focus, and follow-through—and you take pride in delivering work that meets the requirements.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Ability to stand for extended periods while operating machinery.
- Ability to bend, reach, and climb as needed for loading, unloading, and setups.
- Ability to lift, carry, and position materials and large-format workpieces, using material-handling equipment as needed.
- Manual dexterity to operate machine controls and precision measuring instruments.
- Work is performed on a manufacturing shop floor with exposure to machinery, metal stock, cutting fluids, and typical machine-shop noise.
- Employees must follow established safety protocols and wear required PPE.
