Description

Main Function and Responsible Area / Goal of the task:

  • Set up and operate CNC tool and cylindrical grinding machines (e.g., ANCA and Rollomatic) to manufacture high-precision carbide cutting tools according to technical drawings and specifications.
  • Ensure consistent product quality by performing in-process measurements, tool inspections, and adjustments to meet tight tolerances and customer requirements.
  • Reduce scrap and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain machines, tooling, and workspace in optimal condition, ensuring adherence to safety standards and contributing to reliable, uninterrupted production.

Main tasks / Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC grinding machines in line with production plans and priorities.
  • Interpret technical drawings, tool layouts, and specifications to ensure accurate tool geometry and performance.
  • Conduct in-process inspections using precision measuring equipment to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Adjust machine parameters and tooling proactively to correct deviations and maintain consistency.
  • Monitor and achieve key performance indicators (KPIs) such as productivity, scrap rate, and machine utilization.
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to improve processes, tooling strategies, and product performance.
  • Follow safety procedures, 5S standards, and company guidelines to maintain a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Document production data, issues, and improvements accurately to support traceability and continuous improvement initiatives 
  • Prepare and pre-set grinding wheels, tool holders, and fixtures to ensure efficient machine changeovers and minimal setup time.
  • Manage tool regrinding and reconditioning processes, ensuring tools meet original performance standards.
  • Support new product introductions by assisting in trials and prototypes.
  • Analyze root causes of quality issues or tool failures and contribute to corrective and preventive actions.
  • Meet delivery deadlines.
  • Train and support less experienced operators or new hires on machine operation, best practices, and quality expectations.
  • Ensure proper handling, cleaning, storage, and identification of carbide blanks and finished tools to maintain traceability.
  • Quality inline checks according to company rules, using inspecting equipment (e.g. Walter Helicheck)
  • Engraving of tools using a laser marker
  • Operating drag/finish equipment
  • Operate manual grinding equipment (Ewag) on a needed basis
  • Operate wheel dressing machine (Rollomatic ProfileSmart)
Requirements

Skills / Professional Know-How

  • Strong technical expertise in CNC grinding, preferably with Rollomatic (and/or ANCA) machines.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting metric engineering drawings, tool blueprints, and geometric tolerances (GD&T).
  • Experience with CNC programming and grinding software (ToolRoom, VGPro).
  • Skilled in using precision inspection instruments (micrometers, calipers, optical measurement systems).
  • Problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot machining and quality issues independently.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, continuous improvement, and process optimization techniques.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while maintaining high attention to detail and quality.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies, adapt to changing priorities, and support production demands (including shift work if required).

Work Requirements:
