POSITION TITLE: Physical Therapist

DEPARTMENT: Rehab Therapy

EMPLOYEE REPORTS TO: Director of Rehabilitation Services/Rehab Supervisor

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt 

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-time


Summary:

The Physical Therapist, (PT), performs evaluations and administer treatments prescribed for the spectrum of physical disabilities, supervises PT aides, participates in in-service and quality assurance programs and other duties and administrative tasks as directed by supervisors.

  

Duties and Responsibilities:

Provides physical therapy services to patients according to a written individualized plan of care. This may include, but not be limited to:

· Assessing and evaluating therapeutic/rehabilitative/functional status, and participation in the environment.

· Directing physical therapy treatment.

· Provides equipment required to increase patient function and independence. 

· Instructing patients and families/caregivers in the use and care of therapeutic appliances.

· Determining priority needs for physical therapy

· Communicate patient's reaction to treatment or changes in condition to their physician.

· Initiates physical therapy program and instructs other personnel and/or family/ caregivers in certain phases of physical therapy with which they may work with a patient, as well as instructing them as to the goals of the physical therapy program for the patient by participating in case conferences.

· May educate patient in the use of prosthetic device.

· Participates in patient discharge planning. Prepares and submits a clinical progress summary based on the attainment of goals directed by organization policy.

· Provides physical therapy consultation to families/caregivers, as appropriate.

· Provides in-service education programs as needed.

· Participate in the interdisciplinary group.

· Actively participates in the quality assessment performance improvement teams and activities.

· Provides supervision of physical therapy assistants and other aides, as appropriate.

Requirements

 Education, Training and Licenses Required: 

· The Physical Therapist must be a graduate of a CAPTE (Commission on Accreditation and Physical Therapy Education) accredited university/college

· Current California licensure

· Current BLS certification that is compliant with AHA guidelines. 


Experience Required: 

· No prior work experience is required but it is desirable. 


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required: 

· Thorough command of accepted PT evaluation and treatment techniques.

·  Good documentation, communication, organizational and problem-solving skills. 

· Ability to interact effectively with patients of all ages and developmental stages. 

· Must be able to communicate in English verbally and in writing.


 Equipment Knowledge Required: 

The PT will demonstrate competency in theory and practical use of all electrical, thermal and mechanical equipment used in this department. 


Salary Description
$70.00 - $80.00 per hour
