Description


The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption (DTFA) is a national, nonprofit public charity dedicated to finding permanent homes for the more than 130,000 children waiting in North America’s foster care systems. Created by Wendy’s® founder Dave Thomas who was adopted, the Foundation implements evidence-based, results-driven national service programs, foster care adoption awareness campaigns and innovative grantmaking. 


STATEMENT OF PURPOSE


With support from the vice president, marketing and communications, the development marketing and communications director will inform an integrated strategy to reach and engage individual donors and corporate partners interested in raising awareness of and financial support for the Foundation. The development marketing and communications director will be a strong connector, skilled in collaborating across internal departments and external audiences to inform the development of compelling content shared across various channels.


ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Collaborate with marketing and communications and development department leads to create messaging and materials that engage current and prospective individual donors and corporate partners interested in raising funds and awareness for our mission; serve as a liaison, collaborating with internal teams to determine valued opportunities for partners that expand the Foundation’s reach and impact
  2. Inform communications strategies to engage the employees, clients/customers and networks of corporations that have named the Foundation as its signature charity. Serve as the liaison to Wendy’s® U.S. marketing and communications teams and agency partners and provide content for internal and external channels, paid and earned media, social, fundraising campaigns and materials align with the Foundation’s brand standards
  3. Oversee the partnerships communications manager’s work to create print, video and digital materials that help corporate partners (e.g., Wendy’s of Canada, Wendy’s suppliers, Roof Maxx and others) to engage clients, customers, networks and/or followers in fundraising campaigns, events and other ways to get involved as well as stewardship communications (e.g., emails, impact reports and other special projects) in collaboration with the Wendy’s partnership, partnerships and events teams
  4. Oversee the development marketing associate director’s work to create digital and print fundraising campaign materials (e.g., mailings, appeal emails, fundraising ads, text messages) and stewardship communications (e.g., annual report, newsletters, impact reports and other special projects) in collaboration with the development team as well as external agency partners
  5. Utilize HubSpot and other data sources to assess the effectiveness of development marketing and communications and inform recommendations and priority growth areas to ensure the highest ROI. Contribute to quarterly marketing reports and scorecards for board and committee meetings
  6. Write, edit and proofread communications materials in alignment with the Foundation’s brand standards and AP style
  7. Assume responsibility for professional growth, keeping current with cause marketing partnership and event communications trends. Support team members’ growth, encouraging continued learning 
  8. Support other marketing and development communications needs and perform other duties as assigned

  • Experience utilizing best practices in developing an integrated marketing and communications strategy, leveraging, print, email, web and organic social media channels, to advance an organization’s mission and fundraising goals
  • Advanced knowledge of effective digital advertising, cause marketing, audience segmentation, organic and paid search and search/generative engine optimization strategies to improve engagement, acquisition and retention outcomes across development and corporate partnership campaigns
  • Experience developing and supporting corporate partner marketing and cause-based campaigns communications including collaborating with internal teams and external partners to develop messaging and materials that drive engagement, build awareness and support stewardship 
  • Strong analytical skill with experience utilizing marketing analytics and CRM platforms (e.g., HubSpot and related data systems) to evaluate campaign performance, measure fundraising and engagement outcomes and inform strategic decision-making
  • Superior oral and written communication and editing skills, with experience reviewing and providing guidance on multi-channel communications to ensure consistency, quality and alignment across internal and external materials in collaboration with cross-functional partners; advance knowledge and use of AP style
  • Proven ability to lead multiple cross-functional initiatives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Experience leveraging project management systems (e.g., Asana) to support strategic planning, workflow management resource coordination and effective project delivery  
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and high emotional intelligence to effectively build and earn trust with internal teams, stakeholders and external partners
  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to contribute to an inclusive, respectful and welcoming work environment where all employees feel valued, supported and connected to the Foundation's mission 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Undergraduate degree in communications, journalism, marketing or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in marketing and communications that support partnerships, events and/or fundraising
  • Experience in a consulting, cause marketing or national nonprofit organization strongly preferred 

WORK ENVIRONMENT
