Greenville University is seeking adjunct faculty to teach on campus Physics courses, including University Physics II and Quantum Mechanics. Adjunct faculty at GU are educators and mentors who invest deeply in students’ academic, professional, and spiritual development. This position supports Greenville’s mission by providing hands on, Christ centered instruction that prepares students for lives of character, service, and calling.

Courses may include University Physics II (lecture + lab) and Quantum Mechanics (lecture + lab), depending on qualifications and departmental needs.

Courses Included

University Physics II (On Campus)

Continuation of University Physics I, covering electric fields and forces, electric potential, resistors, capacitors, DC circuits, magnetic fields and forces, electromagnetic induction, inductors, electromagnetic waves, Maxwell’s equations, and optics. Delivered through in person lectures, problem solving sessions, demonstrations, and hands on laboratory work.

Quantum Mechanics (On Campus)

Intermediate course using matrix formalism and operator methods. Topics include quantum states, measurement, angular momentum, rotation, entanglement, time evolution, harmonic oscillator, and wave mechanics in three dimensions. Includes in person lab sessions and guided computational or experimental activities.

Primary Responsibilities

On Campus Teaching & Instruction

• Deliver engaging, student centered instruction aligned with course outcomes and GU’s mission.
• Prepare lectures, demonstrations, lab activities, and learning materials.
• Provide timely feedback and maintain accurate grade records.
• Integrate faith and learning where appropriate, modeling Christian character and professional integrity.

Laboratory Leadership

• Set up, maintain, and safely operate lab equipment and instrumentation.
• Guide students through hands on experiments and computational physics activities.
• Reinforce safety protocols and proper use of tools and measurement devices.
• Collaborate with faculty and lab staff to ensure smooth lab operations.

Student Mentorship & Support

• Hold regular office hours and provide in person academic support.
• Foster an inclusive, supportive classroom environment.
• Encourage students in their academic, professional, and personal growth.

Collaboration & Professionalism

• Communicate effectively with the department chair and course coordinators.
• Participate in required training, orientation, or assessment activities.
• Uphold institutional policies, academic integrity, and safety standards.

Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Physics or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated knowledge of calculus based physics and intermediate quantum mechanics.
• Experience teaching or training in academic or professional settings.
• Strong communication skills and ability to explain complex concepts clearly.
• Commitment to Greenville University’s mission, Christian values, and student mentorship.

Preferred Qualifications

• Doctoral degree in Physics or a related discipline.
• College level teaching experience, especially in physics or engineering.
• Experience teaching laboratory courses or computational physics.
• Familiarity with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) or other high impact practices.
• Demonstrated ability to support diverse learners.

Regular Undergraduate Adjunct rate with class enrollment of 10 or more per credit hour is $1000. This rate is subject to change based on enrollment numbers for the course.
