EPC Sr. Project Manager/Director

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking an EPC Sr. Project Manager/Director to lead the execution of large, complex EPC projects from award through final completion and turnover. This role holds overall accountability for project safety, schedule, cost, quality, contractual performance, risk, and client satisfaction. The EPC Sr. Project Manager/Director will lead a multidisciplinary team and coordinate engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, vendors, subcontractors, and client stakeholders across chemical, petrochemical, refining, energy, manufacturing, midstream, infrastructure, and other heavy industrial facilities. The position works in both office and industrial field environments, and significant travel and/or extended onsite presence may be required depending on project location and phase.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide overall leadership of EPC project execution from award through final completion, turnover, and closeout, establishing objectives, execution strategy, team organization, and performance expectations.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for the client on project execution matters, leading owner meetings and communicating status, risks, changes, and recovery plans clearly and professionally.
- Champion a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with OSHA, environmental, regulatory, and client safety requirements, holding project leadership, contractors, and subcontractors accountable for safe execution.
- Coordinate engineering across process, civil, structural, mechanical, piping, electrical, and instrumentation and controls disciplines, ensuring deliverables support procurement and construction and meet codes, standards, and contract requirements.
- Manage engineering changes and promote constructability, value engineering, and modularization opportunities to improve project execution.
- Oversee procurement of long-lead equipment and critical materials, and lead the selection and management of major vendors and subcontractors, resolving commercial, technical, and schedule issues.
- Direct construction activities across multiple contractors, monitoring productivity, manpower, quality, and progress, and resolving field issues that could affect cost, schedule, safety, or quality.
- Establish and maintain the integrated EPC project schedule, identify critical-path activities, and develop and implement recovery plans when needed.
- Maintain accountability for project financial performance, including budget, forecasts, cash flow, earned value, and estimate-at-completion, taking corrective action on unfavorable cost trends.
- Manage change orders, claims, and commercial issues, ensuring scope changes are documented, priced, approved, and incorporated while protecting the company's contractual position.
- Partner with project controls to define KPIs, review monthly reports, and provide accurate forecasts to senior management.
- Lead the project risk-management program, maintaining risk registers, developing mitigation and contingency plans, and escalating significant issues in a timely manner.
- Ensure quality requirements are defined and met, coordinating inspection, testing, documentation, and support for client audits and quality reviews.
- Plan commissioning and startup from early in execution, and coordinate system turnover, punch-list completion, performance testing, turnover documentation, and final acceptance.
Required Skills:
- Strong understanding of engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup processes.
- Strong knowledge of project controls, cost management, scheduling, contracts, and change management.
- Strong understanding of OSHA and industrial construction safety requirements.
- Proven ability to build and lead high-performing multidisciplinary teams.
- Commercial awareness, sound business judgment, and strong negotiation and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to identify problems early, develop practical solutions, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with executives, clients, engineers, contractors, and craft personnel.
Required Experience:
- 15+ years of experience in industrial project execution, with significant experience managing EPC projects.
- Demonstrated experience managing large, complex industrial projects from engineering through construction and commissioning.
- Experience in chemical, petrochemical, refining, energy, manufacturing, or other heavy industrial environments.
- Experience managing major subcontractors, vendors, and equipment suppliers.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, business, or a related technical field.
- Professional Engineer (PE), PMP, or other relevant professional certification.
- Experience with projects exceeding $100 million in total installed cost.
- Experience with EPC/EPCM contracting models and lump-sum, cost-plus, reimbursable, and unit-rate contracts.
- Experience with major process equipment, piping, electrical, instrumentation, utilities, and industrial infrastructure.
- Experience with complex brownfield and/or greenfield projects.
- Experience working directly for or with major industrial owner/operators.
- Experience with project management systems such as Primavera P6, SAP, EcoSys, or similar platform
