Michelson 20MM Foundation, founded in 2010, is an affiliated organization of Michelson Philanthropies. We believe that equitable educational and economic opportunities are essential to activating humanity’s full potential. For more than a decade, our foundation has served 20 million minds—the approximate number of post-secondary students in the United States—by advancing open educational resources, smart justice, digital equity, and intellectual property education.
Since our founding, our work has grown to include investing in tech entrepreneurs, changemakers, and policy with the goal of catalyzing scalable innovations in the knowledge economy and accelerating progress toward a more just world. The foundation continues to expand into other verticals, challenging social inequalities and injustices in fields beyond education.
The Smart Justice Program Manager will report to the CEO, COO, and Program Director and will be responsible for managing and supporting the foundation’s long term commitment to the Smart Justice Initiative. The role will require strong research capabilities, strategic planning skills, and cross-sector coordination with a range of stakeholders to grow the foundation’s smart justice network. The Program Manager is also responsible for developing annual SMART goals and providing recommendations for the advancement of programmatic goals.
Overview of Role
The Michelson 20MM Smart Justice Initiative (SJI) leverages higher education as a catalytic force for transforming the lives of justice-involved individuals, and reforming the justice system itself. We work to transform the communities impacted by our country’s punitive legal system to forge brighter, more prosperous futures through education. We do this by leveraging funding, leading advocacy and research efforts, and advancing policy across systems.
The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication, project management, analytical skills, and leadership capabilities and is a team player. The successful candidate will also possess excellent interpersonal communication skills and is able to work well with multiple constituencies and audiences, including academics, policymakers, researchers, advocates, educators, the public at large, and a range of media outlets. Knowledge of grant management and the nonprofit sector is preferred, a strong interest in the education sector and social impact work is required.
