Description

Clinical Coordinator (BHH & Outpatient Services)

Portland & Biddeford, Maine

About Alternative Wellness Services (AWS) At Alternative Wellness Services (AWS), exceptional client care begins with how we support the people providing it. We are a dynamic, forward-thinking agency that values innovation, teamwork, and the meaningful contributions of every employee. We work hard, but we know how to have fun! AWS offers multiple opportunities for team development, including engaging all-agency gatherings that keep our staff connected and inspired.

We foster a workplace culture rooted in collaboration, accountability, and recovery-oriented care. Because we are deeply committed to the well-being of our team, we offer a 100% employer-paid Health Insurance Plan, free Employee Assistance Program (EAP) services, and generous PTO—with opportunities to earn more throughout the year by engaging in fun contests or exceeding expectations.

We believe that caring for our staff means providing strong external resources for personal support, allowing our internal leadership to maintain a healthy, professional, and structured environment. We fiercely protect your work-life balance: we want our team highly focused during core business hours so that when you clock out, you can completely disconnect and focus on what matters most in your personal life.

Position Summary: Clinical Coordinator (On-site with occasional flexibility)

Reporting directly to the Practice Manager, the Clinical Coordinator is a vital connector and clinical leader bridging our Outpatient Therapy (OPT) and Behavioral Health Home (BHH) programs. This role is designed to be highly focused and manageable: you will oversee two OPT Clinical Supervisors (who lead small teams) and provide targeted clinical guidance for the BHH program. Because the day-to-day operations of BHH are expertly handled by a dedicated Program Administrator, your role within BHH is strictly clinical—partnering collaboratively to provide clinical supervision and documentation oversight without the burden of daily operational management. As you work alongside the leadership team to explore program expansion, the vision is to scale the BHH program to eventually add a dedicated Clinical Supervisor to your reporting structure.

This leadership role is ideal for a clinician passionate about systems-building, mentorship, and clinical quality. Because our core work is rooted in community-based mental health, you must be highly comfortable guiding staff as they support clients across a broad spectrum of clinical acuity and complex needs. You will deftly balance operational requirements with clinical needs, bringing a solutions-oriented, creative mindset to program expansion and community partnerships.

We are looking for a leader who is "clear and kind"—someone who leads by example and can firmly hold teams accountable to program structures and service delivery. At AWS, we recognize that true leadership isn’t about being the absolute expert in every room; it is about having the humility and wisdom to access expertise when needed. We are looking for a leader who listens deeply, reflects thoughtfully, and embraces continuous learning. Additionally, as AWS actively expands our clinical training program through university internship agreements, a genuine love for teaching and guiding emerging professionals is essential.

Crucially, you will model exceptional professionalism. You will serve as an objective, supportive mentor for your team—advancing their clinical growth while maintaining the strong leadership boundaries necessary to foster a safe, respectful, and highly effective workplace.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clinical Supervision: Provide dynamic group and as needed individual clinical supervision for the BHH program, and step in to support the Outpatient program when current supervisors are at capacity.
  • Mentorship & Growth: Support employee development through active coaching, onboarding, and ongoing clinical education for clinicians, care coordinators, nurse consultants, and peer support staff.
  • Clinical Oversight: Review, approve, and monitor clinical documentation to ensure absolute quality, accuracy, and compliance with ethical standards.
  • Clinical Guidance: Partner with the BHH Program Administrator to guide staff through provisional diagnoses, complex clinical decision-making, and person-centered treatment planning.
  • Crisis & Escalation Support: Act as a steady, objective anchor during urgent clinical consultations, drawing on your comfort with high-acuity community mental health to manage escalated client complaints and service concerns when other resources have been exhausted.
  • Best Practices: Spearhead trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, and co-occurring disorder treatment practices across all departments.
  • Strategic Leadership: Collaborate with program leadership on quality improvement initiatives, program development, and interdisciplinary communication.
  • Community Connection: Build and maintain positive, collaborative working relationships with community providers and referral sources.
  • Administrative Excellence: Maintain timely, accurate, and compliant documentation and supervision records.

Schedule & Work Environment

  • Full-time, In-Person position between our Portland and Biddeford locations
  • Our core hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. We are happy to offer some flexibility when life happens; however, because our staff works entirely on-site, we are looking for a supervisor who will be present in the office to actively lead and support them.
