Description

Are you looking for a hands-on role where you can see engineering projects come to life? Join our Water Services Team as a Resident Observer and play a key role in delivering infrastructure projects that support communities and improve the systems people rely on every day. As a Resident Observer, you will be an essential member of the project team, working in the field alongside engineers, contractors, and clients to help ensure successful construction of water and wastewater infrastructure projects. You will serve as the eyes and ears in the field by observing construction activities, documenting progress, and helping ensure projects are built safely, accurately, and in accordance with design plans and specifications.


Responsibilities:

  

  • Serve as the on-site representative during construction of water and wastewater infrastructure projects, including pipelines, pump stations, treatment facilities, and related improvements
  • Observe daily construction activities and collaborate with contractors, engineers, and project managers to support successful project delivery
  • Document construction progress through detailed daily reports, photographs, field notes, and project records
  • Review work for compliance with plans, specifications, and contract requirements
  • Communicate field observations, project updates, and potential challenges to the project team
  • Assist with tracking quantities, reviewing contractor progress, and supporting payment documentation
  • Participate in project meetings, site visits, punch list development, and project closeout activities
  • Build strong relationships with clients, contractors, and team members while representing our commitment to quality and excellence

Preferred location is BETA’s Lincoln, RI office. Candidates should have flexibility to work from our other office locations. BETA also offers a hybrid work schedule, allowing employees to request working remotely up to 2 days per week.

Requirements

Required Experience/Skills:

  • 5+ years of practical construction experience with water infrastructure
  • A clear ability to understand/interpret design and construction documents
  • Must be independent, highly motivated self-starters
  • Strong technical aptitude with an eagerness to learn
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Able to prepare and maintain field reporting documentation
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications
  • Must be able to collect field data and measurements including but not limited to roadway, sidewalk, and utility assets; and perform asset inspections 
  • Must be able to lift/move objects weighing up to 40 pounds
  • Must be able to perform field work in both hot and cold weather (rain and/or snow) 
  • Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time 
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation 
  • Willing to travel within New England

  

Preferred Experience/Skills

  • OSHA Certifications (ie: OSHA 10-Construction)
  • Associate/Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering

$73,000-$84,000 or commensurate
