Manager of Tax

Job Summary:

The Manager of Tax will play a critical role in a fast-growing, private equity-backed renewable energy platform. This position leads U.S. tax provision (ASC 740), compliance, and planning, while supporting strategic initiatives including project investments, tax equity structures, and acquisitions. This is a role that partners cross-functionally with accounting, finance, legal, and development teams to drive tax-efficient outcomes in a capital-intensive, project-based environment.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  •  Prepares quarterly and annual income tax provision and related disclosures in accordance with ASC 740
  •  Manage tax accounts, reconciliations, and provision-to-return adjustments
  •  Oversee federal, state and local tax compliance processes and external providers
  •  Ensure timely filings and manage tax calendars across jurisdictions
  •  Exposure to tax structuring and modeling considerations, including ITC/PTC
  •  Partner with internal teams and advisors on tax equity structures, including coordination with external advisors and internal stakeholders
  •  Analyze fixed assets and depreciation (MACRS, bonus) for large-scale projects
  •  Support project lifecycle activities including placed-in-service and credit qualification
  •  Assist with transaction support, including acquisitions, dispositions, and financing
  •  Support entity specific tax matters including allocations, ownership structures, and capital account considerations
  •  Advise leadership on tax implications of strategic decisions
  •  Prepare technical memos and support complex tax positions
  •  Identify tax planning opportunities aligned with growth strategy
  •  Help build and scale the tax function to support high-growth, private equity-backed environments
  •  Lead and support tax audits, including documentation of key tax positions and credits
  •  Drive process improvements and enhance SOX-compliant tax controls
  •  Improve tax data flows and integration with financial systems
  •  Manage tax notices and inquiries across jurisdictions
  •  Coordinate limited Canadian tax compliance with external advisors
  •  Support budgeting and forecasting processes
  •  Monitor and asses tax legislation changes and business impacts
  •  Contribute to special projects in a high-growth environment
Requirements

Education & Experience Requirements:

  •  Bachelor's degree in accounting or tax
  •  CPA required
  •  Minimum 6 years’ tax experience in public accounting and/or corporate tax
  •  Big 4 experience preferred
  •  Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  •  Experience working in Renewable Energy and/or Private Equity preferred
  • Knowledge of ASC 740 and U.S. tax laws
  • Knowledge of indirect taxes, including sales, use, franchise, real estate, and personal property
  • Exposure to renewable energy tax concepts or capital-intensive industries
  • Ability to perform complex tax research and analysis and effectively communicate results in the form of discussion, presentation, or technical memorandum
  • Ability to communicate/present issues in a clear and effective manner across all levels throughout the company and external auditors
  • Ability to comprehend complex accounting topics
  • Able to work up and down through the organization in a team environment, supporting various tax planning and strategic initiatives

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Advanced MS Excel skills
