We currently seek a full-time Driver to support our Children, Youth and Family Services department. The Driver is responsible for providing safe, reliable and timely transportation services for clients, including pick-up and drop-off transportation to and from Rikers Island. This role supports client access to essential services and program activities by ensuring transportation needs are met in a professional, respectful, and customer-centered manner. In addition to driving responsibilities, the Driver will assist with transportation coordination, administrative documentation, and outreach efforts to increase awareness and utilization of driver services. The Driver will work collaboratively with internal teams to support efficient service delivery and ensure accurate documentation of transportation activities. Evenings and weekends required. 


 This position requires clearance by the New York State Department of Correction and Community Supervision (DOCCS) and/or New York City Department of Correction (DOC). Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain Department of Correction and Community Supervision (DOCCS) and/ or New York City Department of Correction (DOC) clearance to work in facilities operated by DOCCS/ DOC. 


Salary: $26.00 per hour 

Requirements

 

Essential Duties:

  • Provide timely, safe, and courteous transportation for participants to and from Rikers Island, NYS correctional facilities, and community-based offices.
  • Transport participants from their homes or other convenient community locations to visit loved ones at Rikers Island, including scheduled weekend visits.
  • Support transportation for individuals released from NYC Department of Corrections custody between RMSC and community-based offices.
  • Assist with participant transportation to program activities and coordinate Lyft rides when needed.
  • Work within all five boroughs of NYC and Long Island, with occasional travel to upstate New York as required.
  • Follow the assigned Rikers Island schedule: Wednesdays and Thursdays, 1:00 PM–6:00 PM; Saturdays and Sundays, 7:00 AM–12:00 PM.
  • Complete outreach to increase awareness and utilization of driver services.
  • Perform administrative duties, including data entry in the Osborne database (ECM), maintaining electronic vehicle logs, and updating mileage records.
  • Deliver and retrieve supplies, documents, and files, ensuring all items reach the correct recipient or destination.
  • Obtain and maintain required DOC Gate 1 clearance for Rikers Island and access clearance for NYS correctional facilities.
  • Maintain a clean driving record and demonstrate knowledge of NYC and upstate New York roadways.
  • Maintain assigned vehicles in a clean, safe, and operational condition, including routine inspections and preventive maintenance.
  • Promptly report vehicle damage, maintenance needs, fluid levels, tire concerns, and other issues to the supervisor.
  • Exercise caution when driving in inclement weather and comply with all applicable safety and transportation procedures.
  • Attend required training 
  • In-person attendance is required to collaborate with co-workers
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid NYS Driver’s license with a good driving history
  • Minimum of three years experience driving a passenger van

 

Key Competencies:

  • Ability to manage time and routes for a streamlined delivery experience. 
  • Must be able to lift up to 70 pounds as needed
  • Open and transparent communication. 
  • Familiarity with using GPS devices or map apps.  
  • Intermediate knowledge of google suite (Docs,sheets). 
  • Must possess a positive and professional attitude. 
  • Ability to work well independently.
  • Ability to travel locally
  • Ability to work weekends, (Saturday and Sunday)
  • Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines, strong attention to detail, and time management skills
  • Ability to work in teams and collaborate effectively with people in different functions
  • Ability to take the initiative and drive for results
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization and build strong relationships
