Staff Wellness Manager

Pay Grade(s): 12-14 ($79,306.50 + DOE) 


 

Purpose:. The Staff Wellness Manager supports the emotional,   psychological, and physical well-being of employees across Tlingit &   Haida, with dedicated support to the Community & Behavioral Services   Division. This position leads trauma-informed wellness initiatives focused on   preventing and addressing vicarious trauma, secondary traumatic stress,   compassion fatigue, and burnout. The Manager provides structured support to   employees and teams following critical or high-impact incidents and promotes   strategies that strengthen resilience, engagement, and overall well-being.   This role fosters a supportive and trauma-informed workplace culture that   prioritizes employee wellness and enhances psychological safety throughout   the organization.

 

Essential Functions. An   individual in this role must be able to perform the following functions with   or without reasonable accommodation:

· Develop and deliver trainings or   workshops to Tribe employees as directed on topics such as: 

o Trauma Stewardship 

o Resilience and coping strategies 

o Stress management and emotional   regulation 

o Boundaries and self-care 

· Provide post-incident support   (psychological first aid) to individuals and teams at the Tribe, including   facilitating debriefings and coordinating follow-up resources

· Develop, implement, and evaluate a   trauma-informed staff wellness program tailored to the Community &   Behavioral Services Division

· Develop protocols for staff wellness response   following critical or high-impact workplace incidents, in coordination with   appropriate leadership and resources. 

· Develop and maintain staff wellness resources,   educational materials, referral pathways, and communication tools. 

· Provide consultation and guidance to   supervisors and leaders on trauma-informed approaches to employee wellness,   while maintaining appropriate employee confidentiality. 

· Maintain appropriate documentation and   aggregate program data while protecting employee confidentiality and   sensitive wellness information.

· Develop and coordinate employee recognition   and connection initiatives that support belonging, morale, and workplace   well-being.

· Lead initiatives focused on reducing   vicarious trauma, secondary traumatic stress, burnout, compassion fatigue,   and moral distress 

· Collaborate with clinical leadership   to identify high-risk roles or teams and proactively provide support 

· Offer confidential consultations for   stress, burnout, anxiety, or work-life balance

· Conduct risk assessments and   referrals for higher-level care when needed, including assisting employees   with connecting with our clinician on-call as necessary

· Coordinate access to mental health   resources, including Employee Assistance Programs (EAP), counseling, and peer   support networks 

· Facilitate talking circles, peer   support groups or reflective practice sessions for staff 

· Conduct regular needs assessments   (surveys, focus groups, utilization data) to guide programming 

· Monitor and evaluate wellness   program effectiveness, including tracking burnout, engagement, and retention   indicators 

· Promote a culture of psychological   safety, wellness, and open communication 

· Partner with leadership on policies   related to staff well-being, workload balance, and trauma-informed practices

· Ability to maintain confidentiality   and handle sensitive situations with professionalism

· Commitment to confidentiality, integrity, and   ethical conduct.

· Cultural competency and respect for Tlingit,   Haida, and Tsimshian cultures and communities.


Minimum Qualifications (education, experience, skills):

· Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral   Health, Social Work, Psychology, Public Health, or related field 

· Four (4)+ years of experience in   behavioral health, staff wellness, or employee support services 


Preferred Qualifications (education,   experience, skills):

· Master’s   degree in Behavioral   Health, Social Work, Psychology, Public Health, or related field

· Licensure or certification in a   behavioral health field (e.g., LCSW, LPC, LMFT) 

· Training in Critical Incident Stress   Management (CISM) or similar debriefing models 

· Certification in wellness coaching,   resilience training, or trauma-informed care 

· Experience in healthcare or   community mental health settings 

· Knowledge of Tlingit and Haida   cultures and traditions


Physical Requirements. The   physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met   by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job   with or without reasonable accommodation:

· The majority of work is performed   in a professional office setting and is generally sedentary, requiring   routine walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items weighing less than   40 lbs


Work Environment. The work   environment characteristics described here are representative of those an   employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job:

· Some travel may be required on   small aircraft or ferry. 

· Certain positions at Tlingit and   Haida may have exposure to certain hazardous materials or conditions. The supervisor will review these if   applicable.
