Instructional Designer
Description

Build the training experience behind Family Express.

Family Express is committed to delivering a best-in-class orientation and training program that prepares our associates to succeed from day one. Our four-day, hands-on orientation combines classroom learning, practical application, culture, and performance-based evaluation to ensure new associates leave orientation ready to perform in our stores and understand what it means to represent Family Express.

We are looking for an Instructional Designer to help us continually raise that standard.

The Instructional Designer will own the ongoing development and continuous improvement of training content across Family Express. Working closely with our Training Coordinators and operational leaders, this role will strengthen our four-day pass/fail orientation program while developing training and learning experiences that support associates throughout their careers.

This isn't a role where you build training once and move on. We are looking for someone who will continually ask: How can we teach this better?

What You'll Do

  • Partner with Training Coordinators to continuously develop and improve our four-day new hire orientation program, including curriculum, hands-on activities, assessments, and pass/fail standards.
  • Create engaging instructor-led, digital, and hands-on learning experiences that translate operational expectations into practical application.
  • Develop role-specific training programs and learning modules for Sales Associates, Store Managers, Field Consultants, and other positions throughout the organization.
  • Ensure Family Express culture, service expectations, and the Living Brand are intentionally incorporated throughout orientation and ongoing development — not treated as a standalone training topic
  • Utilize our mock-scale convenience store training environment to create realistic learning experiences that prepare associates for store operations and customer interactions.
  • Partner with subject matter experts and operational leaders to turn processes, procedures, and business needs into effective training.
  • Develop assessments and practical exercises that measure knowledge, skill, and job readiness — not simply course completion.
  • Evaluate existing training using feedback, performance results, and operational observations to identify opportunities to simplify, modernize, and improve.
  • Keep training materials current as our operations, technology, products, policies, and expectations evolve.
  • Help create a consistent learning experience from an associate's first day through continued development and advancement within Family Express.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who understands that great training is more than a PowerPoint presentation. You can take a business need, determine what someone actually needs to learn, and build an experience that helps them successfully perform the job.

You also understand that training helps shape culture. The learning experiences we create should reinforce how we operate, how we serve our customers, how we lead, and what it means to be part of Family Express.

The ideal candidate will bring experience in instructional design, learning and development, corporate training, education, or a related field. Experience developing adult-learning programs, assessments, e-learning, facilitator materials, or hands-on training is strongly preferred.

Experience in retail, convenience store, hospitality, food service, or another fast-paced multi-location environment is a plus.
