Job Identification
This position provides entry-level Information Technology support to the Georgia division of Ernst Concrete while developing foundational technical skills through hands-on experience. This is a part-time position working less than thirty (30) hours per week and is intended as a developmental role, building skills and experience through structured exposure to the Ernst technology environment. Preferred office locations are Kennesaw or Lawrenceville. The assigned home location is determined by the employee’s place of residence and the needs of the Information Technology department. All work performed by the Part Time IT Intern is assigned, supervised, and reviewed by Information Technology leadership. This position reports to the IT Manager and receives day-to-day direction from local Information Technology leadership in Georgia.
Essential Tasks and Job Functions
Under direct supervision, the Part Time IT Intern will:
- Serve as a secondary contact, or as the on-site contact for the assigned location, for small technology issues
- Escalate any issue beyond the scope of basic support to Information Technology leadership rather than attempting to resolve it
- Observe and assist with troubleshooting computer and network hardware, software, printers, VoIP phones, and security cameras
- Assist with the setup, imaging, and configuration of endpoints for new and existing users
- Assist with the physical inventory of IT assets, verifying equipment on site and reporting discrepancies to Information Technology leadership
- Assist with cable management, labeling, and the organization of equipment rooms and workstations
- Assist with the physical installation and inspection of cabling, network hardware, and security cameras located in, on, or around the plants
- Document work performed in the company ticketing system, recording the issue and resolution clearly
- Assist with preparing, retiring, and staging equipment for deployment or disposal
- Assist with maintaining documentation including standard operating procedures, common issues, and equipment records
- Travel to local Georgia plants as directed and approved to assist with on-site support, deliver and retrieve IT assets, and pick up parts and equipment
- Report suspected security threats, phishing attempts, or unusual system behavior to Information Technology leadership immediately
- Complete all assigned training and demonstrate ongoing progress in technical skills
- Refer all issues involving network configuration, server administration, vendor management, licensing, and system-wide changes to Information Technology leadership
- Perform other duties as requested or assigned

- Must accurately record all hours worked by clocking in and out at the beginning and end of each shift and for all meal periods
- Scheduled hours are established in advance with Information Technology leadership and are subject to business needs
- A company laptop will be provided for use in performing the duties of this position
- Mobile device support will be determined by the company and may consist of either a stipend for the business use of a personal mobile phone or a company-provided mobile device
- A company vehicle may be provided for minimal travel to local Georgia plants when one is available for this position’s use
- Employees under twenty-one (21) years of age are not permitted to operate a company vehicle
- When a company vehicle is not available for this position’s use, or the employee is not permitted to operate one, travel to other plant locations will occur only as a passenger with an employee who has been assigned a company vehicle
- Must have and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license and operate any company vehicle in a safe manner, observing all safety requirements and policies
- Abide by all company policies
Physical Demands
- Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer workstation
- Ability to view and read a computer monitor, phone screen, and printed documentation for extended periods
- Repetitive use of hands and fingers for keyboarding, handling small components, and connecting hardware
- Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, and reach when accessing equipment under desks, in cabinets, and in equipment racks
- Must be willing and able to lift up to 30 pounds
- Ability to navigate rough, uneven terrain while working in and around the plants
Environmental Conditions
- Work is primarily performed in an office environment
- May be exposed to extreme weather conditions, high noise levels, and significant vibrations consistent with construction equipment and job site activities while working in or around the plants
- May be exposed to dust, cement lime, concrete admixtures, diesel fuel, and other potentially harmful products and chemicals while at plant locations
- Required to wear all assigned personal protective equipment when in plant operating areas
