Position Summary
Do you like owning the full billing cycle, from building the invoice to seeing the cash land, and knowing Unanet well? QBE is looking for a Staff Accountant to own customer billing and accounts receivable for our government contracting business. You'll handle work that matters from start to finish, work closely with our Controller and program managers, and see the direct impact you have on cash flow and the month-end close.
This role is a good fit if you have 2+ years of hands-on AR experience in Unanet and want more ownership, more variety, and exposure to project accounting and program control.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Billing & AR (your core focus): Prepare and review customer invoices, apply cash, follow up on collections, and reconcile AR. You'll be the go-to person for getting customers billed accurately and paid on time.
- Unanet setup: Set up and maintain customer, project and billing records in Unanet so the data stays accurate from the start.
- Accounts payable & expenses: Process vendor invoices, coding, approvals and payments. Review employee expense reports and reconcile vendor accounts.
- Reconciliations & close: Perform bank, credit card and GL reconciliations, prepare routine journal entries, and help us close the books on time each month.
- Timesheets: Monitor and review timesheet submissions, flag exceptions, and coordinate corrections with employees. Ensure approved time is properly recorded for payroll and billing.
- Program control support: Review labor and costs, run budget-to-actual analysis, and help program managers resolve billing and project accounting questions.
- Continuous improvement: Partner with the Controller on accounting projects and process improvements, and support audits and internal reviews.
- 2+ years of accounting experience, including hands-on customer billing and accounts receivable (invoicing, cash application, collections and reconciliations)
- Hands-on experience working in Unanet (required)
- Experience with accounts payable, expense reports, and bank and credit card reconciliations
- Working knowledge of the general ledger and month-end close
- Strong Excel skills
- Excellent attention to detail and follow-through, and the ability to manage recurring deadlines with employees, customers, vendors and program teams
Nice to have
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business or a related field
- Government contracting accounting and billing experience
- Customer and project setup experience in Unanet
- Familiarity with government travel rules and per diem calculations for both CONUS and OCONUS locations
- Familiarity with COLA/LQA/Danger Pay/Post Hardship calculations
- Exposure to intercompany accounting, project financial reporting or budget-to-actual analysis
Why QBE
- 401(k) match, PTO, health coverage, tuition assistance
- A hybrid schedule: three days in our Haymarket office (Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays), two days remote (Tuesdays and Fridays)
- A small, collaborative finance team where your work is visible and your ideas for improving processes get heard
- Room to grow into project accounting and program control
