Description

Job Function

  • Adapt teaching methods to fit the needs of each individual student
  • Supervise students in and out of the classroom, including in the halls, on the playground and in the cafeteria
  • Provide in-class and at-home assignments based on the available lesson plan
  • Follow lesson plans provided by the regular Teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students
  • Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment
  • Assist in maintaining records on each child’s progress and development and compliance with the Head Start Standards.
  • Maintain daily attendance of children and staff in each classroom. 
  • Assists the teacher in implementing the daily lesson plans for assigned curriculum.
  • Maintain a well-organized, safe and attractive classroom environment conducive to the regulations and guidelines in the day-to-day operation of an early childhood setting.  
  • Observe each child daily to assess skills, interests, and needs and use this information to facilitate learning and growth. 
  • Assist in providing children with play activities designed to encourage children’s curiosity, exploration, and problem solving.
  • Ensure each child’s personal hygiene by changing diapers/clothing when necessary, and teaching them hand washing skills.
  • Assist in cleaning and organizing the child care rooms at the end of the day. 
  • As needed, assist in conducting home visits and parent conference and work cooperatively and effectively as a team member. 
  • As needed, assist in planning and implementing the daily program of activities based on principles of child development and in accordance with the program’s curriculum. Assist in creating interactive parent-child activity materials. 
  • Ensure all children are supervised at all times.
  • Establish a positive relationship with each child’s family and share information about the child’s day at the Center.
  • Able to travel for business related activities.
  • Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance in compliance with AVANCE-Houston policies and/or procedures, local, state, and federal laws.
  • Perform other duties as assigned 


Requirements

Education

  • Required: High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institute
  • Preferred: CDA in Infant/Toddler or Pre-School or an AA in Early Childhood Education or a related field.  


Experience

  • Preferred: One-year experience in a licensed childcare facility. Head Start experience a plus.

License & Certification

  • Must have a Valid Texas Driver License
  • Must have Valid Vehicle Insurance 
  • Must have dependable transportation
