Description

Job Summary: Ensure and enhance the health and well-being of our Residents by providing direct, routine care and assistance with activities of daily living, food service, housekeeping, and laundry services 


Care Functions

  • Assumes responsibility for the safety and supervision of all Residents
  • Assists with personal cares including bathing, dressing, grooming and toileting
  • Accurately measures and records vital signs, weights, food and fluid intake and output, bowel movements, etc. 
  • Assists in safe transfers using a transfer belt, device, or appropriate lift
  • Answers call pagers promptly and determines Resident needs
  • Ensures that Residents are clean, neatly dressed, and well-groomed 
  • Administers medication according to all federal, state, and facility guidelines, and properly documents all medications and treatments administered
  • Administers treatments such as eye drops, compression socks and topical applications, observing guidelines to ensure accuracy and safety 
  • Reports to the charge nurse any accidents or incidents involving residents and visitors
  • Immediately reports any suspected abuse or neglect per facility policy
  • Reports promptly to the nurse on duty any signs of Resident illness or changes in condition, to include skin condition and mental status
  • Assists with activities such as chair exercises, crafts, trishaw rides, and transporting to programmed activities within the facility
  • May run errands as requested


Care Functions

  • Prepares and serves the breakfast meal
  • Serves all meals, snacks and beverages according to food safety guidelines and facility schedules
  • Promptly reports any chewing or swallowing difficulties to the Lawson Manor Manager
  • Cleans and sanitizes dishes utilizing commercial dishwasher
  • Remains aware and takes precautions to ensure a clean and safe environment for residents and staff
  • Performs housekeeping tasks such as dusting, vacuuming, spot shampooing carpets, sanitizing bathrooms, railings and tables, sweeping and mopping 
  • Transports and launders soiled clothing and linens and delivers clean clothing and linens to Resident rooms
  • Changes bed linens, ensuring that beds are neatly made
  • Other duties and responsibilities as qualified for and directed by licensed staff or supervisors  


Personnel Functions

  • Attends staff meetings as scheduled
  • Develops and maintains a good working relationship with other staff
  • Completes assigned training and obtains required continuing education
  • Utilizes materials and supplies in an efficient, cost-effective manner
  • Follows all facility policies and procedures
  • Follows standard precautions and works within OSHA guidelines
  • Reports any equipment malfunction to the designated staff member 
  • Always represents the United Pioneer Home and Lawson Manor in a positive manner unless contraindicated by law


Requirements

Qualifications

  • Certification through a state-approved CBRF (Community Based Residential Facility) course
  • Free CBRF certification classes are available onsite
  • Understand, read and write English fluently
  • Position includes every other weekend (Friday and Saturday nights)
  • Minimum age 18


Other Skills and Abilities required

  • Demonstrated concern for the elderly and ability to treat Residents with respect and dignity
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of resident information, per HIPAA regulations
  • Strong time management and teamwork skills
  • Ability to understand and follow work assignments and interventions in resident care plans
  • Customer service oriented
  • Adequate strength and endurance to meet the strenuous physical demands of resident care responsibilities such as operating lifts and commercial dishwashers
  • Coordination and dexterity required to provide resident care skillfully
  • Ability to work as scheduled and adapt to changes in bi-weekly work schedule

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to endure prolonged walking, sitting, standing, use of pulling, bending, and stooping movements
  • Able to lift a minimum of 30 pounds
  • Be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability
  • Demonstrate negative assessment for infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis (TB) 
  • Remain free of illegal drug use and signs of impairment as per facility policy
  • Remain free of criminal conviction that may preclude employment in the assisted living setting (including but not limited to theft, battery, assault)

Starts at $19.68/hour, plus experience credit
