Description

The Certified Substitute Teacher provides instructional services in the absence of the regular classroom teacher while maintaining continuity of learning in a positive, safe, and academically rigorous environment. The substitute is responsible for implementing lesson plans, managing classroom behavior, and fostering a culture consistent with the mission and classical education model of Rocky Mountain Classical Academy. The Certified Substitute Teacher supports the intellectual and character development of students while maintaining high expectations for academic achievement and student conduct. 


Compensation and Benefits

  • Part-time (as needed), Non-exempt
  • $180.00 - Full Day; $90.00 - Half Day
  • Not eligible for benefits
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required.
  • Valid Colorado Teaching License or a valid Colorado Substitute Authorization, preferred.
  • Successful completion of all required background checks and employment requirements.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective instructional practices and classroom management.
  • Ability to follow lesson plans and adapt instruction as needed to meet student needs.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to establish positive working relationships with students, staff, parents, and administrators.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding student and employee information in accordance with applicable laws and school policies.
  • Dependable attendance, punctuality, and flexibility to accept substitute assignments.
  • Ability to integrate technology appropriate to classroom instruction.
  • Commitment to supporting the mission, vision, and core values of Rocky Mountain Classical Academy.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Report to assigned classroom/learning space on time and prepared to fulfill instructional responsibilities.
  • Implement lesson plans and instructional activities provided by the regular classroom teacher.
  • Maintain a positive, orderly, and academically focused classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Supervise students throughout the school day, including during transitions, recess, and other assigned activities.
  • Foster student engagement while maintaining high expectations for behavior, respect, and academic effort.
  • Take attendance and maintain accurate records as required.
  • Communicate with administrators regarding any concerns related to student behavior, safety, or instructional needs.
  • Leave appropriate notes regarding completed lessons, student progress, attendance, and any significant events for the regular classroom teacher.
  • Follow all school procedures regarding emergency drills, student safety, health protocols, and security practices.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and information.
  • Demonstrate professionalism through appropriate dress, conduct, and communication.
  • Utilize instructional technology and classroom resources responsibly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that are consistent with the nature of the substitute teaching assignment.
