Hotel Apprentice

Position Summary

The Hotel Apprentice will participate in a structured, hands-on training program designed to provide broad experience in hotel operations and hospitality management. The apprentice will rotate through multiple departments, gaining practical knowledge and skills while supporting daily operations and delivering exceptional service to guests.

Departments may include Front Desk, Food & Beverage, Housekeeping, Sales, and Engineering/Maintenance.

This position is ideal for an individual interested in developing a career in the hospitality industry and gaining a comprehensive understanding of hotel operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

General Responsibilities

· Participate in a structured apprenticeship and cross-training program across multiple hotel departments.

· Learn and follow hotel policies, procedures, brand standards, and safety requirements.

· Provide friendly, professional, and attentive service to guests, coworkers, and business partners.

· Develop a working knowledge of hotel operations and how departments work together to support the guest experience.

· Complete assigned training, projects, and departmental rotations successfully.

· Maintain a professional appearance, positive attitude, and strong work ethic.

· Assist managers and team members with daily operational needs as assigned.

· Follow all workplace safety, security, and emergency procedures.

· Maintain confidentiality regarding guest, employee, and hotel information.

Front Desk

· Assist with guest check-in and check-out procedures.

· Learn reservation, registration, and payment processes.

· Respond to guest questions, requests, and concerns in a professional and timely manner.

· Assist with telephone calls and other guest communications.

· Learn procedures for handling guest service issues and resolving concerns.

Food & Beverage

· Assist with restaurant, bar, banquet, breakfast, or other food and beverage operations as applicable.

· Provide courteous and efficient service to guests.

· Learn food safety, sanitation, and cleanliness standards.

· Assist with setup, service, cleaning, and other operational duties.

· Become familiar with menus, products, service standards, and inventory procedures.

Housekeeping

· Learn hotel cleanliness and guestroom presentation standards.

· Assist with inspecting and maintaining guest rooms and public areas.

· Support housekeeping operations, including linen, laundry, and supply processes as needed.

· Learn procedures for reporting maintenance issues, lost and found items, and guest concerns.

· Understand the importance of cleanliness, organization, and attention to detail in the guest experience.

Sales

· Gain exposure to hotel sales and business development activities.

· Assist with administrative tasks, client communication, and sales-related projects.

· Learn about group bookings, corporate accounts, events, and other hotel revenue opportunities.

· Support the preparation of sales materials, reports, and presentations as assigned.

· Develop an understanding of customer relationship management and the hotel sales process.

Engineering and Maintenance

· Assist the engineering team with general maintenance and preventive maintenance activities.

· Learn basic hotel systems and equipment operations.

· Respond to maintenance requests under appropriate supervision.

· Assist with maintaining hotel facilities, guest rooms, and public areas.

· Follow all safety procedures and use appropriate tools and equipment as directed.

· Report safety concerns, equipment issues, and maintenance needs promptly.

Requirements

  

Qualifications

· High school diploma or equivalent preferred; enrollment in or completion of a hospitality, technical, or apprenticeship program is a plus.

· Interest in pursuing a career in hospitality or hotel operations.

· Strong customer service and communication skills.

· Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

· Willingness to learn and work in multiple departments.

· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

· Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work environments.

· Ability to maintain a professional and positive attitude.

· Basic computer skills preferred.

Physical Requirements

· Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

· Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull items as required for assigned departmental duties, in accordance with applicable safety guidelines.

· Ability to perform duties that may include bending, reaching, and other physical activities.

Work Schedule

The Hotel Apprentice may be required to work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on departmental rotation and hotel operational needs.

Learning and Development

The apprentice will receive hands-on training, mentoring, and exposure to multiple areas of hotel operations. Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship program, the individual will have developed foundational skills and experience that may prepare them for future opportunities within the hospitality industry.
