Brand Copywriter
Fully Remote National
Job Type
Full-time
Description

GIS Benefits has named a new category in the employee benefits market: Benefits Operating Partner™. The visual identity is built. The declaration has been made. What this role is responsible for is making sure every word — and every asset that carries those words — is worthy of it.

The Brand Copywriter owns the GIS narrative and the written content that brings it to life across every format. Writing is the primary discipline: this person sets the brand voice, writes across every format and audience, and produces the sales collateral, website copy, presentations, and communications that define how GIS goes to market. Light design capability is a valued secondary skill — not a replacement for a trained graphic designer, but enough comfort with modern AI-powered tools to drop copy into an existing template, make a simple on-brand layout, or tidy up a visual without always waiting for a specialist.

Writing is the primary discipline. Design capability — enough to execute simple, templated layouts — is a valued and differentiating secondary skill.

The ideal candidate thinks like a communications strategist, writes like a brand veteran, and is comfortable enough in today's design tools to assemble simple assets independently. A “figure it out” mindset is a must.

Requirements

What This Role Owns

Brand Voice & Narrative

  • Own and protect the GIS brand voice — every word that goes to market reflects the established standard
  • Develop and maintain the brand book, voice and tone guide, and writing standards documentation
  • Serve as brand steward — reviewing outbound materials for consistency, accuracy, and quality
  • Establish the written language system that all future marketing, sales, and communications build from

Sales Enablement & Collateral

  • Write sales and marketing copy: presentations, flyers, brochures, one-pagers, and service-specific enablement materials
  • Translate complex employee benefits positioning into clear, compelling copy for broker, employer, and carrier audiences
  • Maintain a single organized library of approved, current assets for active sales team use
  • Drop finished copy into existing templates and make light layout adjustments so assets are ready to ship without always routing through a designer

Website & Digital Content

  • Own all website copy — page architecture, hero statements, service descriptions, and calls to action
  • Write and manage light organic LinkedIn content; write press releases and thought leadership blogs as needed
  • Ensure all digital content is consistent with the brand voice and updated as the business evolves

Creative Production & Art Direction

  • Use AI-powered design tools (Canva, Adobe Firefly, Adobe Express, or equivalent) to place copy into on-brand templates and produce simple visual concepts
  • Brief, direct, and manage freelance graphic designers when specialist visual execution is required
  • Coordinate project intake and creative workflow — manage timelines, approvals, and asset delivery

Core Responsibilities

  • Write, edit, and refine brand and marketing copy across all formats: presentations, sales collateral, web, email, social, press releases, executive storytelling
  • Own the GIS brand voice — write the standards, apply them consistently, and protect them in every review
  • Produce simple, templated visual assets using AI and modern production tools; execute independently where possible, brief specialists where required
  • Brief and manage freelance creative partners: write the brief, manage the timeline, hold the quality standard
  • Develop sales enablement materials that brokers, carriers, and the GIS sales team use in real conversations
  • Build and maintain the brand book, training guides, and internal communications as the brand launches and evolves
  • Navigate ambiguity and multiple concurrent high-priority projects without losing quality or momentum
  • Partner directly with GIS leadership and sales leadership to identify enablement gaps and build the tools that close them

Required Qualifications

  • 4–7 years of copywriting, brand writing, or content strategy experience in an agency, in-house brand team, or brand consultancy
  • Demonstrated ability to write across formats: long-form narrative, short-form sales copy, web copy, presentations, social content
  • Experience establishing or maintaining brand voice and tone — writing standards documents, style guides, or brand books
  • Fluency with at least one AI-powered or modern design/production tool: Canva, Adobe Express, Adobe Firefly, Figma, or equivalent
  • Comfortable enough with visual tools to drop copy into a template, make simple layout adjustments, and evaluate output against the creative strategy
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Portfolio (work examples) demonstrating real range across format and audience — not a single specialty
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, English, marketing, journalism, or equivalent practical experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in employee benefits, insurance, financial services, or a related intermediate industry
  • Experience writing for a channel or partner audience — brokers, agents, distributors, or similar
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) in addition to AI-powered tools
  • Experience supporting a brand launch or new positioning from the ground up
  • Experience marketing through a channel audience — not just direct to end consumers
  • Comfort in a lean or small creative function where you set direction and do the work

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal teams and external partners.
  • Occasional travel for meetings or company events may be required.
