The Cardiology Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive nursing care to patients receiving outpatient cardiology services in collaboration with cardiology providers and the interdisciplinary team. This role completes patient assessments and cardiac diagnostic testing, supports the evaluation and management of cardiovascular conditions, provides patient and family education, and coordinates care and follow-up services. The Cardiology RN may also assist with other cardiopulmonary clinics, services, and related patient care activities as needed.

The Cardiology RN is accountable for following department and organizational policies and procedures, models ethical behavior, and promotes positive ethical and moral principles consistent with SRMC’s mission and behavior standards.

Responsibilities:

· Work closely with the Cardiopulmonary Clinic Coordinator and cardiopulmonary staff to coordinate and deliver high-quality patient care.

· Communicate effectively with patients, families, providers, and healthcare team members to support coordinated care and continuity of services.

· Collect, evaluate, prioritize, and document pertinent patient information, including physical, psychosocial, spiritual, educational, and anticipated care needs.

· Coordinate medication refills, prescription requests, referrals, durable medical equipment, and other patient care needs in collaboration with providers and within the established scope of practice.

· Prepare for scheduled clinics by reviewing schedules and ensuring that orders, diagnostic results, outside medical records, and other pertinent clinical information are available and documented in the electronic health record (EHR).

· Maintain complete, accurate, and timely documentation of patient care, clinical activities, communications, and other required information in the EHR in accordance with organizational policies and applicable standards.

· Perform cardiac diagnostic testing and related procedures according to provider orders, established protocols, and demonstrated competencies. Testing may include stress testing, EKGs, Cardiac CTs, and other applicable procedures.

· Initiate and administer intravenous medications during cardiac testing in accordance with established protocols.

· Provide nursing care and monitoring for patients undergoing cardioversions and transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE), assisting the cardiologist and healthcare team before, during, and after procedures.

· Clean clinic instruments and equipment, maintain necessary supplies, and complete required equipment and emergency-supply checks, including monthly crash cart checks.

· Complete and close clinic and outpatient testing encounters and ensure applicable charges are entered accurately and promptly in the EHR.

· Complete clinical documentation, department billing, pre-authorizations, medical-necessity documentation, and chart-audit adjustments according to hospital standards.

· Maintain regular attendance and coordinate time-off requests and staffing needs with the Cardiopulmonary Director, Clinic Coordinator, and cardiopulmonary staff in accordance with department guidelines.

· Maintain knowledge of and comply with applicable organizational policies, professional standards, and federal and state laws and regulations related to job responsibilities.

· Conduct all duties ethically and in support of SRMC’s mission, purpose, and behavior standards.

· Report suspected or known illegal activity in accordance with organizational policy and applicable law.

· Assist with other cardiopulmonary services, clinics, and related patient care activities as needed.

Education, Experience & Licensure:

· Education: Graduate of an accredited registered nursing program.

· Experience: At least one year of clinical RN experience preferred.

· Licensure: Current, valid, and unencumbered Registered Nurse license in the State of Nebraska.

· Certifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications. If a required certification is not current, the RN must participate in applicable classes offered by SRMC.
