The Construction Project Manager has full ownership of a vessel already under construction and carries it through outfitting, testing, sea trials and delivery. This is a hands-on, deadline-driven role for someone who can step into a live build, get control of schedule and cost quickly, and lead the trades to a clean handover, including extended hours during trials and delivery.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Take control of the build
- Within the first 30 days, audit the vessel's actual status against the contract, specification and drawings, and produce a baselined completion plan.
- Build and maintain a punch list and open-items register covering every system, space and deliverable.
- Identify and resolve gaps from the prior phase: missing drawings, unapproved changes, incomplete inspections and undocumented work.
Lead outfitting and trades coordination
- Plan and sequence outfitting work across trades: piping and mechanical, propulsion and machinery installation, electrical and controls, HVAC, navigation and communications, joinery and interiors, insulation, coatings and deck equipment.
- Run daily and weekly production meetings; set clear priorities by space and system to avoid trade stacking and rework.
- Coordinate machine shop work, fabrication and subcontractors so parts and crews arrive when needed.
Schedule and cost control
- Own the master schedule; track progress by task, trade and system, and report percent-complete and earned value weekly.
- Manage the project budget, labor hours and material costs; forecast cost-to-complete and flag variances early.
- Manage long-lead and owner-furnished equipment; expedite purchasing and track deliveries.
- Administer change orders: scope, price, negotiate and document all changes with the owner and subcontractors.
Testing, sea trials and delivery
- Plan and run system commissioning, dock trials and sea trials, with test procedures agreed in advance.
- Clear the final punch list, compile the delivery package (manuals, certificates, warranties, as-builts, spares lists) and lead handover to the owner.
- Support warranty-period issues and capture lessons learned.
Stakeholder communication
- Serve as the primary day-to-day contact for the owner and owner's representative.
- Report status, risks, cost and schedule to the COO in a regular written update.
- Escalate issues early with a proposed solution.
