The Infusion Nurse provides comprehensive care to patients and their families during all phases of cancer care – pre-treatment, during treatment and post-treatment.


Requirements

The Infusion Nurse educates patients and their families regarding:

  • Diagnosis
  • Treatment
  • Side effects
  • Dietary issues


The Infusion Nurse also:

  • Performs venous access appropriately for type of chemotherapy
  • Manages venous access devices per protocol
  • Assesses blood return
  • Uses antithrombotics when indicated
  • Administers chemotherapy as ordered per protocol
  • Manages infusion reactions
  • Documents appropriately in the EMR and generates and approves billing charges
  • Phone triage
  • Provides a clean, safe environment in which to provide patient care
  • Understands handling of hazardous substances and waste

Experience & Education:

Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

RN Licensure

Minimum 2 yrs experience


Skills and Abilities:

Excellent skills in physical assessment

Ability to work well independently and within a team

Excellent skills in time management, organization and communication

Detail-oriented
