Position Summary

AO Multispecialty Clinic Oncology is proud to be a leading oncology practice in the CSRA, with a long-standing reputation for providing compassionate, high-quality care to patients with cancer and blood disorders throughout our community.

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Oncology Infusion Registered Nurse to join our team. The Infusion Nurse provides comprehensive nursing care to patients and their families throughout all phases of cancer treatment, including pre-treatment assessment, treatment administration, ongoing monitoring, and post-treatment care.

The ideal candidate is clinically strong, detail-oriented, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary oncology team. This position requires excellent assessment skills, strong organization, and a genuine commitment to supporting patients throughout their cancer care journey.

Key Responsibilities

Infusion & Treatment Administration

• Administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biologic agents, supportive medications, and other prescribed infusion therapies in accordance with physician orders and established protocols 
• Perform appropriate venous access based on prescribed therapy and patient needs 
• Access, maintain, and manage implanted ports and other venous access devices according to established protocols 
• Assess blood return and maintain appropriate vascular access throughout treatment 
• Administer antithrombotic agents when clinically indicated and ordered 
• Verify treatment orders, laboratory results, dosing parameters, and other clinical requirements prior to treatment 
• Monitor patients throughout treatment and provide appropriate post-treatment care 
• Recognize and manage infusion reactions and other changes in patient condition according to established protocols 

Patient Assessment & Clinical Management

• Perform comprehensive nursing assessments before, during, and following treatment 
• Monitor patients for treatment-related symptoms, side effects, and complications 
• Recognize changes in patient condition and communicate concerns promptly to the appropriate provider 
• Provide telephone triage and assess patient symptoms according to established clinical protocols 
• Coordinate with physicians and advanced practice providers regarding treatment parameters, symptoms, and changes in patient condition 

Patient & Family Education

• Educate patients and families regarding their diagnosis and treatment plan 
• Provide education regarding chemotherapy and other prescribed therapies 
• Review potential side effects, symptom management, and post-treatment care 
• Provide education regarding nutrition and dietary considerations 
• Reinforce medication instructions and supportive care recommendations 
• Help patients and families understand when and how to contact the clinical team with concerns 

Documentation & Care Coordination

• Maintain accurate, complete, and timely documentation within the electronic medical record 
• Document nursing assessments, medication administration, patient response, interventions, and education 
• Generate and review applicable treatment and billing charges for accuracy 
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacy, laboratory, scheduling, and other members of the oncology care team 
• Support continuity of care and timely communication between patients and the clinical team 

Safety & Compliance

• Follow established chemotherapy and hazardous drug handling procedures 
• Properly handle and dispose of hazardous medications, materials, and waste 
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe treatment environment 
• Follow infection prevention and medication safety standards 
• Maintain compliance with HIPAA, organizational policies, and applicable clinical and regulatory requirements 

Qualifications

Preferred

• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience 
• Previous oncology, hematology, chemotherapy, or infusion nursing experience 
• Experience with peripheral IV access, implanted ports, and other vascular access devices 
• Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) chemotherapy/immunotherapy training or certification 
• Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification

Qualifications Required

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited nursing program      
• Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Georgia 
• Strong physical assessment and clinical decision-making skills 
• Ability to safely perform nursing responsibilities associated with      infusion therapy
